Sometimes I say the most bizar things, DH has started calling them Waywards quote of the week or if I'm having a particularly good week he gets quotes of the day :-)

It's all part of the fun he gets living with someone who doesn't always fully engage their brain before speaking

I'd say affectionate rather than patronising, but it does depend on who said it to whom and how.

I nearly posted that about a comment yesterday... one that had me nearly waking the children as I snorted so loudly. so no not always patronising.

If verbally, you would know from the tone of voice etc.
