to object to dh cleaning bathroom (sink, bath, tiles, toilet) using toilet paper instead of a cloth?

He maintains it is more hygienic as he changes the clump of tissue after a few wipes.

I maintain it is inefficient, doesn't remove grime, is wasteful of toilet paper and leaves a tissue paper fuzz over everything.

He says using hot water and a cloth (plus cleaning stuff) is far less effective and unhygienic...

Once the applause for him cleaning the bathroom in the first place has died down, we need some external arbitration!

Thanks all...

OP he doesn't want to clean the bathroom. Toilet paper is only any good for wiping up splashes.

BitterandTwisted that made me laugh, I think you may be onto something there, do the job so badly he won't be asked again! TBH I use loo roll and a squirt of cleaner to give the sink and loo and quick swish over of a morning when I don't have time to get a bowl and cloth out, it doesn't disintegrate though, I suppose it must depend on the brand of loo roll.

I'm having a really shit night and reading the opening post of this thread made me laugh out loud!!! Grin

I'm going to go back and read all the replies now which will no doubt cheer me up further!!!

I use a bleach based cleaner- and sponge for sink and bath etc. I regularly change it. For the loo I use bleach cleaning spray and wet wipe/ baby wipe. I use loo brush for inner lol. Toilet roll is not suitable. Sort of thing my dp would do !

Stealthpolarbear · 07/09/2014 22:05

I use a j cloth for bath then sink then toilet then throw it out. I then use disposable wipes to clean the toilet and the floor.
Interesting that so many of you think toilets are germy. I think so too but have noticed that loads of people happily sit on them (lid down!) which I would never do. So I assumed it was me being overly precious

How dirty are people's homes if they need to scrub the bathroom?
As a family of 7 I have have never scrubbed the bathroom.
Spray everything needing a clean, leave for a few minutes, the wash away with hot water using a cloth.
I spay the toilet and clean useing toilet paper for the toilet, cloths are disqusting.

bellarations · 07/09/2014 22:22

Err, spray not spay, and using not useing.

Lurleene · 07/09/2014 22:33

Re cloths - pink for the sink, blue for the loo!

Panzee · 07/09/2014 22:35

White for hands, brown for feet...

bellarations · 08/09/2014 07:22

Cloth for sink
Paper for toilet

financialwizard · 08/09/2014 07:33

Ooooh I steam clean everything with the hand held steamer then wipe it up with kitchen roll. Steam cleaning gets in all the nooks and crannies without masses of scrubbing with an old toothbrush.

KoalaDownUnder · 08/09/2014 07:42

Cloths are not 'disgusting' if they are soaked in bleach. People have only had access to disposables very recently, and we weren't dropping like flies before. You're dealing with everyday germs, not toxic biohazards.

bellarations, shower stalls need actual scrubbing weekly to keep the grout clean, at least in my experience. Other surfaces shouldn't need scrubbing, agreed.

whois · 08/09/2014 11:36

How about disposable bathroom cleaning wipes

+1

I know it's wasteful. I know it's a waste of money. But having disposable bathroom and floor wipes means that I can actually bear to do those jobs.

whois · 08/09/2014 11:38

The grout in mine needs scrubbing every 2 or 3 weeks otherwise it gets really hard to get it back to white.

We have those stupid tiny tiles with loads of grout. Why WHY?!! When I put in a bathroom into a house I own it shall be with the biggest tiles known to man.

Once the applause for him cleaning the bathroom in the first place has died down

Since it's unusual for him to do it, I'm going to bet my money on he's doing a shit job so you'll do it yourself and never ask him to do it again.
