To let 2 year old DD watch tom and jerry?

DD has tom and jerry on DVD and loves it, however DP doesn't like her watching it because of the fighting aspect.
I think it's fine as it's not people, and it's the typical 'cat chasing mouse' stereotype rather than real fighting.

AIBU, is DP trying to wrap her in cotton wool or is it actually aimed at older children?

LiberalLibertines · 06/09/2014 21:51

Oh ffs it's a cartoon! Tell him to stop being an enormous arse from me :)

shotyourfox · 06/09/2014 22:08

Watching Tom and Jerry should be made mandatory during childhood! I loved it and so do my DC's and so far there have been no Tom and Jerry type incidents Wink

slithytove · 06/09/2014 22:19

17mo DS watches it and enjoys it. Never occurred to me to question it.

LadyLuck10 · 06/09/2014 22:21

Your dp is an idiot, fgs he is the definition of precious. It's one of the most loved old time cartoons.

ChickenMe · 06/09/2014 22:35

Tom and Jerry is hilarious. Being physical is a part of life. People (and animals) fight. I have a T&J DVD too and Daffy Duck. Daffy was a bit inappropriate - quite often he caught fire or his beak fell off. Lol.

crazylady321 · 06/09/2014 22:37

Did he not watch Tom and Jerry as a child? In my opinion its better than some of these stupid shows that are out at moment

Hassled · 06/09/2014 22:39

Tom and Jerry is brilliant. Ditto the Road Runner and all the rest of them.

ChasedByBees · 06/09/2014 22:43

Ha, I turned it off this morning as my 2.5 year old was finding it worrying that the mouse was being so nasty and hurting the cat. She was really unsettled. She is pretty sensitive though.

LadyRabbit · 06/09/2014 22:47

I am so chuffed that my DS has just discovered Tom and Jerry and loves it, and Scooby Doo (thanks Boomerang!). I think - God I hope I'm not tempting fate here - my life is a Peppa Pig free zone again!

LiberalLibertines · 06/09/2014 23:18

hassled road runner is genius Grin

MrsCurrent · 06/09/2014 23:43

Ffs! What about Elmer fudd trying to kill bugs or Sylvester after tweety, are they bad too?

DragonMamma · 06/09/2014 23:53

Meh

YANBU, he is being ridiculous.

I can't believe people give these things a second thought tbh..

kslatts · 06/09/2014 23:56

YANBU.

What did your DH watch when he was a child?

Waltonswatcher · 07/09/2014 00:24

Gosh am I precious and pathetic ?
No way I'd want my dd2watching that . It is aggressive and very violent .

cherrybombxo · 07/09/2014 00:30

My mum wouldn't let me watch Power Rangers when I was little, on account of the 'violence' Grin so precious and utterly ridiculous, she is mocked for it twenty years later.

Same to your DP, he's being stupid. It's a bloody cartoon, I'm sure your child will love it!

squoosh · 07/09/2014 00:30

But hasn't the updated Tom & Jerry been sanitized? I watched one recently and it definitely wasn't the classic gore fest I remember fondly.

fortifiedwithtea · 07/09/2014 00:39

DD1 loved Tom & Terry when she was little and howled laughing. Its slapstick fun, clowning violence. We had so many videos, those were the days Wink. But 4 years later DD2 come along, a sensitive soul and they made her cry and sadly they had to be put away.

Let your DD see one and if she likes it, happy days Smile

BeCool · 07/09/2014 00:44

I noticed my DD started getting violent with other people (hitting/bashing/pushing/etc) after she started to watch Tom and Jerry aged about 3. She loved it.

I put an end to her watching it and things improved.

Mock away, but that in my experience it certainly had an effect on her, and not in a good way.

LiberalLibertines · 07/09/2014 00:54

Yes Walton imo you're exactly that.

ArtisanBaps · 07/09/2014 00:56

Yanbu

Dd age3 loves it. She calls it Thomas Jerry Grin
