To not want this woman to swear in the family changing rooms

FFS- loudly

There are at least 10 kids in here
If she wants to swear in front of her kids, fine, do it at home.

Ds didn't hear- if he did , he would have told her it was a bad word!

Not very nice at all but if you take dc out in public you can't always control what they are exposed to.

SirChenjin · 06/09/2014 21:56

I know that you can't protect your children from what goes on around them, but if your default reaction to something trivial going wrong is to swear in front of kids (and then to not apologise the moment you realise what you've said) then you're pig ignorant.

We had a couple arguing almost outside our caravan on a family park. My ds2 was really scared as he thought he was going to break into caravan. Lots of f words.

Really don't like swearing. I never swear unless in pain.

PPaka · 07/09/2014 08:46

It was a bit unusual, as she was very measured when she said it, slowly. Not like in a rage.
And didn't react after she'd said it, carried on quietly ranting.
Icy maiden- I think I object to my son hearing it because it kind of contradicts what I'm saying to him. If I tell him it's bad to say it, yet he hears it a lot around him, it's confusing.

I think all you can do is tell him that some grown ups do things they shouldn't - and that he is being brought up by people who don't swear because to do so in front of children is not nice. Or something along those lines.

Marylou62 · 07/09/2014 08:59

I agree with a lot of the above...I occasionally like a good swearing rant but always check there are no children about..
On another note, I have a friend who swears a lot and her partner uses the F word in every sentence ....her 3 grown up children never swear...I have known them all since they were babies and have NEVER heard them swear once....

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 07/09/2014 09:05

YABU. If things like this never happened you wouldn't have the opportunity to teach him about the real world ie the one in which not everyone displays the standard of behaviour you'd like him to emulate. Given that there is no law against swearing so you're teaching him etiquette not the rules everyone follows...

The violent and scary rants mentioned in a few posts are completely different, the fact that both involves sweating is incidental I think.

happyyonisleepyyoni · 07/09/2014 09:05

My kids have been known to overhear me swear, I always get a telling off... They strongly disapprove of bad language! 12 and 14 year old boys, they may of course swear like troopers with their mates but I never hear them ....

nowwearefour · 07/09/2014 09:14

Swearing in front of children seems to be the ultimate taboo these days and I just don't understand it. As long as you explain there are words which some adults try not to use too often and they aren't for children then it won't kill them! So much going on in the world and we care more about swearing in front I children than almost anything else. I think yabu. But it isn't just you- it seems like nearly everyone cares more about this than so many other things!

MerryMarigold · 07/09/2014 09:18

I am constantly surprised by people who swear in front of their kids, but don't want their kids to swear Confused. The same with lying.

SirChenjin · 07/09/2014 09:19

Hardly the "ultimate taboo" - I can think of a few things that are more taboo. It's just not something that is a particularly nice thing to do.

MerryMarigold · 07/09/2014 09:20

nowwearefour, stop being so worthy unless the only threads you are on are about Syria, Ukraine, Gaza! This is MN. This thread is more 'important' than what pudding to serve an American visitor! (but I am also on that one)

nowwearefour · 07/09/2014 09:46

I didn't mean Syria etc! Just that the slipping out of the odd bad word is hardly the worst thing we can do as parents. I don't swear often but I don't judge those who do. I elegant more kids not getting enough food as parents can't afford to not being able to assist at home with education etc

DaisyFlowerChain · 07/09/2014 09:49

I can't abide swearing and it's perfectly possible to not swear. Swearing in public is awful and even worse when there are children around.

DS knows there are awful words adults say but that they are down to a lack of control or not knowing another word to replace the one they used. I'm quite relaxed but swearing does wind me up.
