to hate MN showing an ad for an obstetrician I had a very bad experience with?

When I log on I see a number of ads for local services, including an obstetrician who told me not to bother her at a weekend and stay at home when I had an ectopic pregnancy. She told me it was 'just a miscarriage'. I knew it was something different and wrong and eventually just went to hospital A and E. They persuaded the obstetrician to come in, at which point she admitted I was right and operated. This was a really terrible day for me and it was made worse by her delays and lack of empathy. She never apologised and I just sent a note a few weeks later saying that I was moving to another practice as I did not want her delivering any future DC. I was a private patient so free to move.
This was a long time ago but I still get a chill when I see her ad, especially on MN which I think of as a sanctuary.

Post this in Site Stuff for a direct response from HQ.

Minor answers; implement an ad blocker, and also learn the trick of ignoring the sides of pages. I might be being shown ads but I can't see them.

There's a little icon like a blue arrow on the adverts. Click on it and choose the settings and have a fiddle - you might be able to block that specific one but it sadly relies on you knowing which ad provider is showing it to you. On that front I am no help whatsoever!

I use an ad blocker which blocks adverts on every webpage that I view. It's brilliant! I've seen the difference when I visited my parents - I forgot how dominating and distracting all the ads can be, it was horrible - and immediately set them up with it as well. They love it too. If you're using Firefox, the extension is called Adblock Plus and it's a free extension. (If you don't know much about extensions, they're free add-ons for your internet browser, so you don't have to pay anything.) I can disable it for specific pages or for entire websites if I want to, because e.g. I can't watch some news videos online unless I disable it (as they show adverts), but things like YouTube are fine.

Also I didn't say before, but I'm very sorry for your experience Flowers really do consider an ad blocker

Thanks peachgirl. adblocker is a good idea. I didn't realise how many feelings I still have round this until I kept seeing her name here.

No problem, I'm glad if it helps you. I'm viewing Mumsnet now with absolutely no adverts and it's great, frankly.
