Vodkasquirts · 06/09/2014 00:00

Have practised this scenario since reception 4 pants / 3 shirts
H/School 3 Pants / 4 Shirts
Bloody Year 10 and 3 days in school 3 shirts and 3 pants worn.

Just ad a ago as 1 of each of those would have hung spare until either of others had worn out / or become unfit for purpose.

And DS 14 worn the bloody lot bar 1 shirt in 3 days.

I am so gunna make him iron on sunday.

I would expect him to need a clean shirt every day.
He can surely take some responsibility for helping with laundry, but I wouldn't have thought they would necessarily need ironing.
Three pairs of trousers over a week isn't unreasonable either.

SaucyJack · 06/09/2014 02:00

Ball cheese?! Dear Lord- I'm a SMOG at the best of times but that has me practically tap dancing with joy at my inability to produce male offspring.

bloodyteenagers · 06/09/2014 02:25

Every pore from teens emits a stench.. Girls I found aren't free from bo either. And oh wow. The feet. Forgot all about that.
When mine hit the teens I stopped doing their washing. Three teens and their uniforms, pe kits and socks festering away for a few days made me gag.

BerniceBroadside · 06/09/2014 09:02

Buy him another couple of shirts and teach him to iron. His classmates/teacher, and future partner will be truly grateful.

ILovePud · 06/09/2014 09:25

I'd be pleased he's changing his clothes, my son will wear the same pants (pants not trousers) for days on end if he can get away with it. He's even tried to get away with this by putting a pair of clean ones on top of the worn ones to fool me when I've checked the waist band at the top of his trousers (he's 8 btw).

Acolyte · 06/09/2014 09:31

Definitely needs a fresh shirt a day.

I work in an all boys school, the stink of sweaty boy flesh is, at times, enough to make me heave.

I love Monday morning, the smell of freshly laundered uniform Smile

wolfe1 · 06/09/2014 09:34

My teenagers all have clean school shirts on everyday and change trousers every few days.

Jollyphonics · 06/09/2014 09:37

Why are people calling trousers pants on this thread? Have I died and woken up in America?
OP your post is bizarre. Surely everyone washes a shirt after wearing it once? To wear it again would be smelly.

TheFirstOfHerName · 06/09/2014 09:42

I make my Y10 boy wear a clean shirt every day, for everyone's sake. He showers every day but sometimes forgets antiperspirant.

Trousers might last up to a week, depending on how muddy he gets when they go to the park at lunchtime (new Y10 perk).

TwinkleDust · 06/09/2014 09:44

Would you wear yesterdays clothes? Teenage boys whiff.

Buy him a couple of extra shirts and trousers, but make washing (is ironing really necessary..?) one of his Saturday jobs.

LittleBearPad · 06/09/2014 09:48

He definitely needs a new shirt everyday and I don't understand the February thing. Did you mean he wouldn't wear one of the shirts until then?

mummytime · 06/09/2014 09:48

I do washing most days (2 teens and 1 pre-teen). They need to change shirts everyday even with the DDs showering everyday. Their shirts sometimes need a second wash with vinegar to get rid of sweat smells. They also use deodorant as well as body spray.

firstchoice · 06/09/2014 09:48

Fresh shirt every day.
Fresh trousers/skirt every other day.
Fresh jumper every day (due to paint/gravy)

Mine are 7 and 9.
when they hit teens the paint/gravy will be replaced by hormones and dashing round a big school.

You don't want him to be feral.
Be proud he is responsible and taking care of himself / good presentation.
It will stand him well in the workforce.

TheFairyCaravan · 06/09/2014 09:52

My teenagers have clean shirts everyday, plus they shower morning and evening.

mygrandchildrenrock · 06/09/2014 09:55

mummytime tell me more about adding vinegar to the wash, how much and what type? I have to wash shirts twice sometimes to get rid of the sweat smell and that's with a teenage son who showers every day and uses good deodorant.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 06/09/2014 09:57

It's really not hard to put a wash on is it

Artandco · 06/09/2014 10:06

My 4 year old has to have a clean shirt daily. So def get him some more. Here we have:

-6 shirts ( enough for every school day plus spare incase emergency over weekend means no washing/ or if one is stained and needs bin)

-6 school socks ( same reason as above)

  • 3 shorts
-3 jumpers

He has to change shirt/underwear/ socks daily whether at school or home. Trousers/ jumper every few days/ as needed

mygrandchildrenrock · 06/09/2014 10:09

I'm from Manchester, and everyone calls trousers 'pants' there.

PiratePanda · 06/09/2014 10:14

Teenagers stink. If you can't bear washing more than once a week he'll need 5 shirts, but really, 3 should be enough if you wash every second day or even twice a week.

Trousers, on the other hand - unless he's dropping ice cream/paint/mayo on them, he should only need 3 pairs. It's the underarms that are the issue...

dawndonnaagain · 06/09/2014 10:18

My youngest were 18 this week, but yes, it's always been a clean shirt every day. Sorry OP teens of both sexes really do need them.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 06/09/2014 10:22

I'm from Manchester and I call them trousers .....

londonrach · 06/09/2014 10:24

Clean shirt every day and certainly clean pants and socks every day. Would you use the same pants every day...

cricketballs · 06/09/2014 10:32

my DS have always started in September with 5 pairs of trousers, 5 shirts and youngest DS has 5 jumpers (oldest DS went to a school with blazers). Over the school year, they did/do end up with only a couple pairs of trousers left that are acceptable to wear, so the washer goes on in the week.

Teenage boys do smell (I teach them as well Grin), they do continue to play football, find mud with great ease and miss their mouths when eating......

littlewhitebag · 06/09/2014 10:36

A fresh clean shirt for each day is the rule in my house. I actually gave my DD a row for hanging up a shirt she wore all day to wear another day!

The pants/trousers don't need washed each time they are worn so if he has worn them all then let him wear them all another week then wash next weekend?

My DD wears a suit in her 6th Form and she only has two and they need dry cleaned so she will be wearing them many times before they are cleaned.

littlewhitebag · 06/09/2014 10:38

Also, what is the point of keeping the trousers. Surely he will have grown by February?
