next to the fruit & veg stall in our local market

We were both stood there, looking at the apples so right up against the fruit. He turned his head, phlemed up and spat it out, then turned back and carried on.

I said "I'm sorry but that is just disgusting, at least use a tissue and move away from the food if you are going to be so vile."

His wife shot me daggers and made comments to him about me being a rude bitch. Now ok the gentleman was older, probably about 60 and may have been ill (I'm trying to find a reason why he may have felt this was acceptable) but REALLY? Even if you have a condition/cold virus/bronchitis or whatever, you carry a tissue and dont spit on the street next to food? WIBU? They were totally unapologetic.

I hate spitting! So far i haven't been brave enough to tell any spitters off but i would love to, it's horrible.

Spitting is not allowed in this country well, it used not to bebut there aren't enough people to patrol the streets to pick them up on it. There's no one official to speak to litter droppers, no one official to speak to pavement-car-parkers. Spitting comes into the Coughs and Sneezes Spread Diseases category. Many years ago, there was even a 'saying' about it - at the same time as Careless Talk Costs Lives.

My Ex was out on a job once (suit, tie and shiny, black shoes). He passed a bench where a couple of teenagers were sitting (not sat). One spat to the ground but it hit my Ex's shoe. The youth had to clean it off .....
