A NO campaign leaflet was put through my letterbox, I happened to be looking in the hall cupboard for something which is right next to the front door so opened and tried to give the leaflet back to the guy.

I explained I''ve already made my mind up so he might want the leaflet back as it will only go n the bin

He refused to take it back!

I explained I haven't even said which way I'm voting but getting fed up with leaflets from both the YES and NO campaigns coming through on a daily basis, it's a waste of money

Still wouldn't take it back so I left it outside my door and he posted it back through so I opened the door again and put it outside again saying 'honestly it will go in the bin

Then he posted it back through again and shouted through the letterbox 'educate yourself you stupid bitch'!

Was AIBU? I don't think I was? Can I complain about this or should I just leave it?

It was very strange

We get the local Sinn Fein / Republican activist newsletter through the door every month. My boyfriend is a serving soldier, I'm unlikely to be swayed or influenced by their rhetoric. Do I run after the person delivering them or call their office requesting to be taken off their mailing list? No. Because it's a waste of my time and energy and I don't want them to even have any inkling of my political affiliation. YABU. But he shouldn't have called you a bitch.

Ok I may have BU however I honestly don't see what's wrong with handing a back a leaflet you don't want?

It's not even the first copy of that leaflet we have had multiples of the same leaflets delivered from both the yes and no side over the last month and about 8 copies of the impartial guide advertised on tv

It just seems lke a huge amount of waste of paper and resources to keep delivering the same leaflet time and time again

You mentioned Labour so I guess it was a Labour No voter? I'd complain to your local Labour Party - council, MSP, whatever. I'm a No campaigner (not with Labour Party) and if I knew anyone was doing that I'd be having a word with them pretty damn quick. No way should he be behaving that way.

YABU. You live in Scotland and there's a HUGE referendum happening - therefore you should know the drill by now. We all get irritating bumpf through our doors regarding the referendum. If you don't agree with it, then chuck it in the recycling bin. Too late to moan about it wasting paper as it's already been printed Hmm I don't understand your point re "economic sense" they would have printed THOUSANDS of the leaflets and your one, tiny leaflet was a drop in the ocean.

I don't believe for one second that he said those words to you. Not in a hundred years. I do think you've probably embellished a wee bit.

BTW what do you do whe the postman brings you the umpteenth BT/Sky leaflet - it's the same thing. Junk that you presumably recycle instead of handing it back to them bemoaning the waste of paper. Just leave it. You over reacted

No absolute truth about what happened...it took me by surprise too!

Yes it was a Scottish Labour says NO leaflet, not a better together leaflet

Well I canvass with Better Together, but I apologise on his behalf. It is really disappointing to read your post and the other post complaining about a Yes campaigner. I've met a lot of people campaigning, most of us are new to it, and just people who feel strongly - but we should remember to be decent people first and foremost! I think pretty much all of us do. I even had a very nice chat with the Yes campaigner who canvassed me Smile

fluffyduffydoo · 04/09/2014 22:16

that's bad

dd you try and give him his leaflet back to?
