To be worried about dh flying in the Middle East over September 11th?

I know you can't stop doing stuff just in case something happens but I really wish dh was not going to be in Iraqi airspace on Septmber the 11th.
It's all in the news about how something might happen with the planes they have.

Dh is working there for a few days -actually he's going to Oman and Kuwait but I don't want him flying on the 11th.

AIBU or rather silly?

I think YANBU to be concerned, because of the reports of increased 'chatter'

But, the increase chatter happens at other times too and does not necessariy mean an attack will happen. UK is already on a heightened state of alert, and vigilance should be high globally round key dates.

I don't resend to be able to think like a terrorist, but my guess is that if you want pull off an attack, you'll be picking dates which will seem to come out of the blue, not the anniversaries when the impact of attacks is on so many minds.

I'd imagine any target is more likely to be over Western airspace, isn't it? Bear in mind I know nothing, though. You're not being silly, though - you can't help stressing over stuff like this, however much you can rationalise it.

specialsubject · 03/09/2014 19:09

in what news?

obviously we can't say nothing will happen, but as always the drive to the UK airport is much more dangerous.

Well, I wouldn't call you silly, as you can't really help what you worry about, but, as others have said, if you were planning a terror attack, then surprise and "unexpectedness" is a key element - if they did predictable things like pick "likely" dates in advance, then the attack would be likely to be foiled. So, rationally, I don't think there's any more danger on that date than the week before or the week after.

Reports I've seen are in US media, where of course far more attention is paid to 9/11 than here in UK, where the current threat level reflects the NATO summit and the percived IS threat (and perhaps other threats the public will never be aware of).

I've not seen anything well-sourced which suggests a specific plot.
