I'm hoping it will be 12A but there is a LOT of swearing in it. There is no sex & only stylised violence

The dc are 10 & 13 (but ds looks about 7)

It's a live screening & is selling fast so I daren't leave it until the certificate is announced.

Sounds like its going to be a 15.

steff13 · 02/09/2014 12:29

I don't understand, if you know there's a lot of swearing and no sex or violence, have you already seen it?

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/09/2014 12:30

I hope not. The dc have already seen it on stage.

Unless it's a one off showing the film will be in the cinema for ages. Just bok the tickets when the rating has been announced.

steff13 · 02/09/2014 12:32

So, it's a movie adaptation of a play? What does it matter what the rating is if they've already seen it? Just get the tickets and take them to it.

WhenDoISleep · 02/09/2014 12:33

Is it the screening of Billy Elliot at the end of the month?

flipchart · 02/09/2014 12:33

Why do you want to let your kids see something with a lot if swearing in it?

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/09/2014 12:34

Yes it's Billy Elliot

The problem is the cinema will refuse admission if its 15 rated (but not if its 12 as long as they are with an adult.

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/09/2014 12:36

Because its a fabulous show flip art. I didn't allow them to see it when they were younger but a decided that at 10 & 12 they are now old enough.

Listened to soundtrack & discussed language & themes first.

WhenDoISleep · 02/09/2014 12:37

Cineworld is listing it as a 12a.

The show is recommended for over 12s. Having seen it i would expect it to be a 12a.

steff13 · 02/09/2014 12:38

Certainly as a parent you have the final say as to whether they should be able to see it.

Is it a re-release of the Billy Elliott movie from 2000? If so, why don't they know what the rating is? It's PG-13 here (parental guidance required for children under 13).

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/09/2014 12:39

That's helpful thanks whendoisleep. Vue still have it listed as tbc

I want the live screening as I know Curious Dog started off as 12A but the encore performances ended up 15.

OP posts:
Picturesinthefirelight · 02/09/2014 12:39

It's not the film Steff - it's a live screening of the stage show.

It sounds like it will depend on the swearing, if there is a lot and there are any "fucks" it's highly likely it will be a 15.

The BBFC guidance for a 15 regarding language:

There may be strong language. Very strong language may be permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its frequency within the work as a whole and any special contextual justification.

And for a 12A:

There may be moderate language. Strong language may be permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its frequency within the work as a whole and any special contextual justification.

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/09/2014 12:44

There are a lot of f's especially in 'Solidarity'

Some are spoken by the child cast.

Fake enough OP. I didn't know what you wanted to watch when I posted.

WhenDoISleep · 02/09/2014 13:27

Empire have it listed as '12a as live'.
