to be fuming about what just happened...

so, one of my neighbours who I only know to say Hello to just knocks on my door at 11.15pm to tell me that my watering the plants has completely soaked her clothes, that she has been drying "all day" along with her balcony.

To clarify, I live in an apartment block in Spain and I have watered my plants on the balcony...she lives two floors down from me and it is impossible for me to see her washing.
It is roughly 29 degrees outside now and at it´s hottest it was probably about 35 this afternoon. I fail to see how it would have taken her "all day" to dry her washing Confused Yeah right...

Ok, so I realise it isn´t really a big deal but I am so annoyed that she felt it necessary to come and tell me at this time of night...I mean what the Hell did she want me to do...Angry

As I said to her, give it about an hour and it´ll probably be dry again

Fuming is an over reaction.
As annoyed as you are she was probably annoyed you soaked her clothes too.

mindthegap79 · 31/08/2014 22:51

YANBU to water your plants. What time did you water them? On the rare occasions I remember to water mine I do it in the evenings so it's not all lost to evaporation. If her washing is still out in the evening then perhaps she's a weirdo (my washing is currently out because I won't have time in the morning and I may well be a weirdo too but that's fine) Wink

Karsyn · 31/08/2014 22:56

Well if you did get her washing wet and it had been out drying all day then YABU really. mabye she left it to dry while she went out. shouldn't really need so much water that youj flood other peoples balconies for your plants!

MrsWinnibago · 31/08/2014 22:58

Karsyn the neighbour should take her clothes in at night! People water at night. Clothes dry in the day. OP YANBU.

coolaschmoola · 31/08/2014 23:00

YABU. You're meant to water the plants. If you have enough run off to wet washing two floors down you must be flinging it all over. Completely unnecessary waste of water and inconsiderate when you have people living below you.

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2014 23:02

Well should your plant watering be hitting her balcony at all?

I don't live in a block of flats but if I did, I'm not sure I'd be too happy about a neighbour pouring water down on my balcony IYSWIM?

coolaschmoola · 31/08/2014 23:03

Mrs in hot countries (I've lived in several) many people dry their washing outside at night - it stops the colour getting bleached out of them by the sun. Black goes streaky brown over time, and everything fades and bleaches very unevenly.

MokunMokun · 31/08/2014 23:13

Yes, I also used to live in a flat and run off from watering my plants never went on my neighbour's balcony. Are the balconies badly designed? Or are you a bit over zealous with your watering?

Another one here who is wondering what method of watering your plants you useConfused in order to get enough water in a balcony 2 floors below you to soak the clothes?????

basgetti · 31/08/2014 23:28

Why are you fuming? She's the one with wet clothes!

smallblackcat · 31/08/2014 23:33

Why don't you use drip trays so the water doesn't run over? My neighbour used to water her plants on her window sill, which was over my back door, and I used to get soaked if I happened to be walking under at the same time. It drove me nuts.

maddening · 01/09/2014 00:05

whether washing is out correctly or not at night people could be sat reading getting fresh air and suddenly pelted with water - op contain your watering!

IamGrimalkin · 01/09/2014 00:19

Are you dame washalot? And do you live in the Faraway tree?

IamGrimalkin · 01/09/2014 00:20

Sorry. .couldn't resist! Can't get to sleep!

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 01/09/2014 00:29

Where abouts in Spain are you?? I was looking for some sunshine this past week and no where seemed very hot?!

I lived in Spain for a while - I miss it. no so much the batshit locals though

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 01/09/2014 00:30

I need to water my plants, maybe she can wring her clothes out over them Grin

alleypalley · 01/09/2014 00:50

I second the dame washalot comment. Htf are you soaking clothes 2floors below.

arethereanyleftatall · 01/09/2014 08:12

Eh? Yabu. Your correct response to your neighbour should have been : 'has it? Goodness, I'm really sorry, I didn't realise, I'll do x to avoid this happening again'

Rokenswife · 01/09/2014 08:46

LatteLover - my family live in La Nucia on the Costa Blanca and my aunts has said it is unbearably hot! X

Castlemilk · 01/09/2014 09:00

How dare she wear clothes. It's a hot country. And with you going the EXTRA MILE to grow enough leaves on your balcony for her to use as covering if she wants to be particularly precious... I'd call 101.

whatsbehindthegreendoor · 01/09/2014 12:47

We live in a flat. Our upstairs neighbour has made my clothes wet when he has watered his plants several times - it's bloody annoying. However, it only takes 2 seconds to move the clothes airer into the building while the water finishes soaking our balcony! I do think she was unreasonable to knock on your door at 11.15pm though!

StrawberryCheese · 01/09/2014 12:58

I think fuming is a bit much, I can see why your neighbour is annoyed but you are entitled to water your plants. However, if you are giving them so much water that you are 'soaking' her clothes then you need to cut back a bit. Or the neighbour is exaggerating.

My balcony is basically decking with slats in between so you can see the balcony below. I have put my plants in the same corner as my neighbours so any water runs down on to their plants. I never water if they are sitting out there.

CarbeDiem · 01/09/2014 13:34

Yabu - I'd be pissed off if I lived under you. She is also a little U for knocking that late.

I'm on the top floor of an apartment block. I have plants, flowers and trees that all need watering but all of them are in huge closed pots or the pots with holes are placed in big toy box type things. It stops you upsetting neighbours below and saves wasting water. Just a thought for you to consider for the future.

choochoomcgrew · 01/09/2014 18:33

I was in the Costa Blanca a couple of weeks ago for 10 days, it was 36 when we arrived and frequently went up that high though most days aroun 30/31.
However, the bloody washing on the balcony took forever to dry!!! So we left it out every night I think - couldnt understand in that heat why everything took so long. If someone had poured water on it Id have been pissed off.
But she shouldnt have come round that late.
