to ask if anyone calls their DC by their middle name?

Our DD has a first and middle name (and surname!). She is 2 and since she was born we have been increasingly using her middle name as it's easier to say, less frilly than her first, and we just prefer it.

Does anyone else call their DC by their middle name and if so, what was your reason? Does it ever cause any confusion - do others use their middle name or first name?

Some friends of ours announced when they had their pfb that she was named firstname secondname but would strictly only be known as secondname.
I don't think it was a family name or a family tradition, just what they wanted to do.
I just find it really odd. If you like a particular name why not just use that as the firstname?

Ds has a very unusual and hard to pronounce foreign first name, courtesy of stbxh sudden affinity with his home culture which appeared when Ds was born and blew apart all proposed names. Grrrrrr.

His second name is a very normal western name which has the same meaning as the other one. I think it's a shame that Ds doesn't have one great name that is distinctive yet pronounceable. But I hope he'll like his first name as an exotic anomaly, and not be bothered by it or inconvenienced.

He also has a string of other names courtesy of stbxh and in laws obession with the patriarchal line, and an awkward double barreled surname. It's ok in London where there are so many unfamiliar names, but it's not what I'd have wanted for him.

I'm glad I insisted my name went into his surname though the combination is unwieldy, at least he's got something of mine. Considering stbxh left us, it seems sad he's saddled with an identity which he is not connected too, and h tried his best to wipe out any trace of the family and culture Ds is a member of. Idiot.

When I had my first baby I was on the ward next to a lovely lady who had just given birth to a girl.
Every single visitor she had over the couple of days asked and what have you called her ? the reply was its Mia Elizabeth but we will be calling her Elizabeth.

Each to their own but I just wanted to scream call her Elizabeth Mia.

My children are all named after historical figures. For example (not one I've used) "Benjamin Franklin." I have one child that goes by "Franklin." Another goes by the first name, and the third has an entirely different nickname for family reasons.

I realise that many of you are rolling your eyes at me right now. :D
