Just pondering..
Do people manage without one??

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 31/08/2014 14:50

No, nobody anywhere in the world manages without one if they work full time

tippytap · 31/08/2014 14:53

I agree.

I mean, how could I work FT, study, be a lone parent all without a cleaner? Oh. I don't have a cleaner.

MrsMinton · 31/08/2014 14:54

I worked full time until this month and H works away all week and we don't have a cleaner. I find the cobwebs and dust add a slightly gothic look myself Wink

EllaFitzgerald · 31/08/2014 14:55

Seriously? Grin

OP, if you feel you need a cleaner, then you go right ahead and get one. Doesn't matter if you do 70 hour weeks or you fill your days with lunches and getting your nails done. YAB rather U to assume that everyone has one, wants one, needs one or can afford one.

Notacs · 31/08/2014 14:55

Of course you don't need a cleaner if you work full time!

I need one more now I'm a SAHM as I make more mess!

Ragwort · 31/08/2014 14:56

Actually since I have gone back to work the house is a lot cleaner and tidier because no one is at home in the day.

The best only time I had a cleaner was when my DS was first born, my DPs paid for a cleaner for the first 3 months - best present ever Grin.

MrsJossNaylor · 31/08/2014 14:57

No. I couldn't manage without my butler, driver, gardener, nanny, cook, personal hairdresser and valet either. How DO people cope?

GreenPetal94 · 31/08/2014 14:58

people manage by doing less cleaning

or by cleaning a lot and having less leisure time

I'm lucky enough not to have to work at the moment, just wondering about a friend when she has to rtw FT. Mumsnet seems very pro cleaners, that is all

I'm sure it's lovely to have a cleaner but I wouldn't say a necessity, I know plenty of people without one. There's quite a few factors involved as well isn't there such as how many children you have, if you have a partner, how big your house is, how much time you actually spend at work and travelling to work.

I do find some people are generally messier than others as well, personally I clean as I go which reduces mess created and to be honest it doesn't take me long to clean the house. I see a cleaner as a luxury I'm sure many people cannot afford, but I'm sure it's great if you can!

AmIthatHot · 31/08/2014 15:00

Ah I get it, another joke post

I work FT, am a single parent and have a child with ASD. I simply could not cope without my cleaner, my housekeeper and my personal taxi driver, shopper and arse wiper....... oh no wait, that's all me Hmm

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2014 15:01

Ridiculous. How do you think the vast proportion of the world's population manage?

MyLifeIsFictional · 31/08/2014 15:01

MrsJoss

I couldn't manage without my butler, driver, gardener, nanny, cook, personal hairdresser and valet either. How DO people cope

Don't you have a secretary and housemaid too? You really should. Grin

rainbowinmyroom · 31/08/2014 15:02

All across the world, people manage to work without paid help at home. Imagine.

MyLifeIsFictional · 31/08/2014 15:02

I had my house cleaned when I moved in. It was spotless.

Then we moved our stuff in. D'oh!

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2014 15:02

You're wondering if your friend will need a cleaner?

Are you looking for a cleaning job, is that it?

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2014 15:03

MyLife, of course MrsJoss has a secretary

Who do you think typed her post? Confused Wink

Olivo · 31/08/2014 15:05

We both work full time but can't afford a cleaner. I would love one but have had to settle for slovenly standards until I win the lottery.

My mum always marvels that I don't have one, she doesn't get that we can't afford a cleaner.Confused

PisforPeter · 31/08/2014 15:06

worra I don't think anybody would employ me to do that, my skills are somewhat lacking Grin

Xmasbaby11 · 31/08/2014 15:08

Among my friends, most who work full time do have a cleaner, even those without children. I think once you get used to it, it's hard to manage without.

dh and I work full time but cannot afford a cleaner. I would love one though!

LePetitPont · 31/08/2014 16:10

My DH and I work full time. We have a cleaner. I heart her and am very sad she is on holiday at the moment.

I could choose to spend my limited free time cleaning.... But life's too short.

SoonToBeSix · 31/08/2014 16:12

Yanbu , although I would take it further and say if you live in a house/ flat/ bungalow you absolutely must have a cleaner regardless of your working hours.

toriap2 · 31/08/2014 16:46

I work full time and have a very ill DH so the only cleaner is me (plus DD now she is older). We manage ok I think.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 31/08/2014 16:49

I dont know anyone personally who has a cleaner. We are far north east and I always assumed cleaners were more commonplace down south.

DH and I both work FT and have a second child on the way. We only outsource childcare.
