...to query £1200 for an appliance to stop a 10 yr old sucking her thumb?

Just that. After an orthodontic appointment I have been recommended to spend that amount on a night-time appliance for my daughter so that her bottom jaw develops normally.

Thanks everybody. I am not sure the appliance is available on the NHS and even if it was, it was mentioned that the waiting list would be too long and by the time she would be seen, her jaws would be more fully developed and not aligned.

I might try the plaster idea again. So far nothing has worked and I definitely agree with the emotional/comfort aspect that so many have mentioned.

I'm 31 and I still suck my thumb, I just cant break the habit.

Can I just thanks to the op - I've gone to bed with a plaster on my thumb the last 4 nights and haven't sucked my thumb Smile Shock my DH can't believe it. I'd never have stopped I don't think but this thread really put my head in the right place Grin
