To be pissed off with DH?

For adopting the 'carer' role?
I was discharged from hospital on Thursday after a month. DH is being taught by the District Nurses how to help disconnect my intravenous antibiotics.
He's just told me not to have a third glass of Cava before the District Nurses come back in an hour and a half.
He's turned all sanctimonious! Hmm

Well a sexy dh as a carer is better than a female district nurse. I'm sure you are just so happy to be home. Have a small glass and lots of chocolate to celebrate and best wishes for long term recovery.

aprilanne · 31/08/2014 17:23

sorry sauvignon. but you are not supposed to drink alcohol with antibiotics .tells u on instructions .especially not intravenous .

maras2 · 31/08/2014 18:12

No booze only applies to Metronidazole.

MegCleary · 31/08/2014 18:14

No booze on metronidazole only.

maras2 · 31/08/2014 18:21

Meg Snap.

gamerchick · 31/08/2014 18:31

Alcohol can reduce the effects of antibiotics.. its not all about getting a violent reaction Hmm it's a bit silly just to focus on one like the rest don't matter.

But do what you want anyway.. that's what choice is all about Grin

SauvignonBlanche · 31/08/2014 19:09

Why do people parrot old wives tales as if they were facts? Hmm

I haven't said what antibiotic I'm on. I have the very comprehensive instruction leaflet in front of me aprilanne, do you?

"Alcohol can interact with certain medicines.
In the case of Meronem:
there are no known interactions between alcohol and Meronem"

From the NHS choices website, here

Informed choice, using available facts is usually preferable gamerchick Grin

just that i am a nurse thats all .not an old wives tale .it can make you have a reaction .because it dimnishes affects of medicine .but who cares ?

SauvignonBlanche · 31/08/2014 19:21

I am a registered nurse and wouldn't dream of giving medical advice about a drug that I knew nothing about.

I would advise that people check the facts about any medication, as I did, or seek expert advice.

SB - welcome home oh lovely one :) Wine Wine One each for you and DH - but you can nab his if you like Grin The are actually cava, tis only the glass that's red Grin

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 31/08/2014 19:24

I was hoping you might drop that into the conversation Grin

SauvignonBlanche · 31/08/2014 19:33

Thanks Lattelover but I'm sticking to the Brew tonight. I need to get a champagne bottle stopper I'd never seen the point of them before so I can have just a glass of something fizzy without feeling the need to finish the bottle, like last night. Blush

It's great to be home, nurses make terrible patients and I was no exception. The District Nurses have all been lovely, I was hoping to self-administer but you need two hands to flush the PICC line though DH is learning quickly.

I'm sure the Handsome Naked Carer would soon learn too. Wink

SauvignonBlanche · 31/08/2014 20:06

Thanks SpringItOn, much appreciated. Grin

I've bought a Champagne saver today so I'll be OK now. Grin

Redcherries · 01/09/2014 15:50

Ha, I'm spleen free so take anti bees everyday for life! There is no interaction between mine and alcohol, I'd be begging for my spleen back! Hope you're feeling back to 100% soon op! X

MammaTJ · 01/09/2014 21:06

I'm sure the Handsome Naked Carer would soon learn too.

I agree, handsome naked carers are known for their intelligence! Grin

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 01/09/2014 21:14

Blimey, it sounds like you deserve as much fizz as you want! Hope you're well on the mend and waited on cheerfully by Handsome Naked Carers.

IsThisOneTaken · 01/09/2014 21:31

Alcohol can reduce the effects of antibiotics

Rarely. Although it's a story that just doesn't seem to go away.

OP... Cava away. I bloody well would.

IsThisOneTaken · 01/09/2014 21:33

you are not supposed to drink alcohol with antibiotics

Depends entirely on the specific antibiotic being taken.

SauvignonBlanche · 02/09/2014 15:46

I'm going to try my champagne stopper tonight. I reckon I deserve a glass of Cava after taking DD school uniform shopping! Grin

OP posts:
Germgirl · 02/09/2014 15:52

Drink away Sauv, you're absolutely right in saying that the only antibiotic you should t drink with is Metronidazole.

Meronem (Meropenem) is a Carbapenem antibiotic. That group of antibiotics don't react with, and are not affected by, alcohol.
I reckon you deserve a few glasses after your ordeal.
I wish I could join you! :) sadly, my drugs do interact :(

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/09/2014 16:04

Enjoy the Cava, glad you are home. If I remember rightly your pre-op thread revolved around nil-by-mouth versus food. I am sensing a theme here.

You do know that you are officially allowed to use the "I need [whatever] like I need a hole in the head...oh hang on a mo!" comment now.

SauvignonBlanche · 02/09/2014 17:58

Sorry to hear that Germgirl, I do hope you get sorted soon.
I've found a horrible side effect to the Meronem, I think I ought to report it. I can't bear the taste of red wine anymore Shock it actually hurts my mouth but I'm fine with Cava or Prosecco.

I haven't used that line yet Chazs, I'll make sure I do. Grin
