Feeling so stuffed and throwing up?

Hi girls, post is a bit TMI but please bear with me Sad

33 weeks pregnant here and I've never felt more uncomfortable. My stomach/ribs especially feels so stuffed/bloated/uncomfortable that I can hardly sit up for so long or lay in one spot for so too long! It's much worse at night though, I have dinner with DH at around 5:30 and feel even worse after! When I'm laying down to go to sleep my chest feels so tight, (TMI) I burp up liquid I know is from the meal I had, it feels like food from my meal is stuck in my god damn throat and trying to come back up ! It makes me physically sick and sweaty/stuffy! Sad

Tonight after I went to the loo I felt so nauseated by this feel I was dry heaving into the toilet bowl and ...might have given myself a bit of help when throwing up...yes I pressure has eased, ribs are still highly uncomfortable but it's not as unbearable as before but now I feel so guilty for doing it!

Was I BU to basically make myself sick to help ease this? If anyone else has experienced this/has any tips they'd be most appreciated! Sad

Have you spoken to your midwife?
Could it be really bad gastric reflux?

EmeraldGreen2 · 30/08/2014 00:47

No I haven't, Little, I wasn't sure if it was anything to ask about so late in my pregnancy Blush

Speak to your midwife. Sounds like really bad heartburn. I had this during twin pregnancy from week 20 onwards - just after the morning sickness stopped. Had 2 weeks of 'glowing' and then back to feeling like crap. Night time was worst.

BertieBotts · 30/08/2014 00:52

Probably your stomach is a bit squashed as well. You could try eating smaller portions but more often, and stick to protein and fruit/veg rather than carbs.

I'm sure making yourself sick one time isn't anything to be worried about.

gwenig2 · 30/08/2014 00:53

Yep had same too. And I made myself sick to ease pain. Speak to GP or midwife, eat little and often. Sleeping sat up with loads of pillows helps. Oh and Gaviscon I had 3 bottles on the go, at home, in car and work. Hope it eases a little.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 30/08/2014 00:54

I would chat to your midwife or GP then. They might be able to prescribe something to help, such as gaviscon or another heartburn remedy that is safe in pregnancy if they think it is that, or look in to what else it could be.

EmeraldGreen2 · 30/08/2014 01:01

Thanks girls, glad to know I'm not alone out there Smile I have an appointment on Monday so shall see what everyone says then! Smile

Would gaviscon still work/help even if I haven't the burning in my chest that comes along with heart burn, just those other symptoms?

Oh you have my sympathies. I had this in the evenings with DC1. I used to pop fruit flavoured rennies like they were going out of fashion.

Make the evening meal the smallest and avoid acidic/spicy foods. Also make sure you sit up for at least one hour after finishing, lying down is the worst thing for it.

SusannahD · 30/08/2014 07:59

Poor you. I used to eat smaller portions throughout the day. Also sounds like heartburn get some gaviscon

Hissy · 30/08/2014 08:04

doctor can prescribe gaviscon. a bottle of this was my only friend when I was pg! :)

deakymom · 30/08/2014 08:05

agree with the gaviscon it might help but it might be the baby has shifted to a funny position my dd did this i couldn't eat properly for days then she moved and i ate loads!

IDismyname · 30/08/2014 08:07

DH used to call me Gaviscon Girl. I had bottles everywhere :)

You have my sympathies.

ZenNudist · 30/08/2014 08:09

I used to have this in fact I still do sometimes if I eat the wrong foods or too much. I don't make myself sick but food won't stay down. Nowadays I'm much wiser to why it happens so don't often have an attack.

When pregnant it got worse , much worse. If you find gaviscon isn't helping then a prescription for omaprazole should do it. Wonderful stuff. Took it in both my pregnancies.

Apart from not eating too much and not eating fatty /spicy/ too sugary/ bad for you food (work out what sets you off) , peppermint tea really helps soothe bad heartburn/reflux.

Namechangedforthisohyesidid · 30/08/2014 08:10

Omeraprazole is AMAZING

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 30/08/2014 08:15

By that point I was eating 4/5 small meals a day. If it's baby putting pressure on your stomach then it will suddenly disappear when baby drops as that pressure will be gone. Avoid greasy or stodgy foods as well and don't let yourself get really hungry - little and often.

Sahkoora · 30/08/2014 08:16

I'm 32 weeks with DC3 and exactly the same. Unfortunately it's been this way in the third trimester with each of my pregnancies.

I've always put it down to not having much space left. It seems to me I can't overfill my stomach without being sick. It also happens if I'm really tired. Feels like my body doesn't have the energy to digest it all so it just throws it all back up.

I just eat smaller portions more often. It's gone away as soon as babies were born so hopefully it will for you too! Good luck!

Picklesauage · 30/08/2014 09:03

I had massive stomach problems when pregnant. Basically baby had pushed feet against the bottom of the stomach closing it off, so it emptied very slowly. This led to it swelling massively causing immense pain, I was carried out of my house twice by ambulance before they worked out the problem.

I was prescribed domperidone and ranitidine (both for stomach and reflux) life got better, but I did have to leave at least 2 hours between eating and lying down.

I urge you to see doctor, the medicine really helped. As an aside, domperidone is a milk stimulant and I'm sure it helped me to breast feed despite my DD ending up in NICU.

PuppyMouse · 30/08/2014 12:05

Have you tried taking these OP? www.boots.com/en/Gaviscon-Strawberry-Flavour-tablets-(32-chewable-tablets)_1124226/

I had awful retching and reflux when I was pregnant. I used to wake up coughing on my own sick in the night (aargh tmi sorry). But these really helped. I took a packet with me everywhere...

Sapat · 30/08/2014 12:10

I always had terrible heartburn, took Gaviscon and was prescribed ranitidine. Both can be prescribed so are free and they give you the really big bottles. I also slept with about 4-5 pillows so almost sat up.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 30/08/2014 13:17

Ranitidine can be bought OTC cheaply, brand name is Zantac. Take it before you have the symptoms.

EmeraldGreen2 · 30/08/2014 17:29

Thanks, everyone! Really glad to see I'm not alone although some of you really have had it worse so Thanks for you all! Smile

I treated myself to double action gaviscon and tablets to tide me over until Monday! Smile

You poor thing, I've had similar experiences in all my pregnancies and been sick a few times near the end, it's horrid but in my experience goes straight after the birth. Like others have said eating more frequent smaller meals and taking some antacids helps but try to avoid getting into the position where you're making yourself sick (sorry if that's bleeding obvious) it can weaken your oesophageal sphincter and make heartburn more likely plus if you're using your fingers or anything else to induce a gag reflex your risking throat infections.
