To just want to pay for the shoes?

Went to a shoe shop to buy my ds some new crocs. I tried a few pairs on him until I found the right pair. Took them to the till and waited about 5-10 minutes while the lady in front was being served. When it was my turn I started to hand the shoes over and the assistant started to back away saying she couldn't serve me unless I got a ticket and waited for the shoes to be fitted. I said they didn't need fitting as I had done it myself. I just needed to pay. Flat out refused unless I got a ticket. Needless to say I put the shoes on the counter and left.

Now i appreciate people take tickets to get fitted and have to wait but isn't it rather ludicrous to have a system where a customer can't just buy your products? Surely having am assistant on the till is fairly standard. Clarks manage to have a ticket system and allow people to buy things.

YANBU, seems idiotic.

YANBU. In our local clarks you can be waiting 30 minutes for a fitting. Not everyone has got all that time to waste. What difference does it make the them whether or not they fit them or you do. Surely you are able to tell if a shoe fits on a foot!

soapboxqueen · 27/08/2014 16:07

To be honest I don't think they would have fitted the shoes even if I had waited. I think she wanted me to take a ticket, wait 30 minutes for an assistant, then when I said they didn't need fitting she would have just sold them to me.

Rafflesway my ds has asd so it was a fairly difficult situation anyway, not helped by them.

InclKate Clarks have a system where they can mark self fitted but I don't this was the issue here. I think it would have been the same if I wanted to buy shoe Polish.

Seems particularly daft for Crocs, they're not even the type of shoes that need to fit well.

soapboxqueen · 27/08/2014 16:28

Ha! I've already ordered some from John Lewis which were on sale.

YANBU, that just sounds ludicrous.
