To wonder what sort of ^spanner^ of an oven designer

Designs an oven with oven shelves that tip if you pull them out more than 5mm pouring molten lasagna all over your hand.

My old oven did not do this.

Surely oven shelves should be designed to be pulled out and stay vaguely horizontal? Just as a basic design funtion

I give you my morphy richards toaster which only toasts 2/3rds of a slice of toast, or 3/4 depending on why way round you put it in.

I too have a dish washer with a manic 'evacuate the crockery' alarm system. Drives me INSANE! It wakes me up if I put it on after we've gone to bed. BOSCH I think.

Oh no, we were just about to buy a Bosch dishwasher. Do they all do that?

sashh · 27/08/2014 07:47

I am obviously blessed

My fridge only bleeps if you leave the door open too long. And you can put bottles lying down - it actually has a wine rack in it.

Both the dishwasher and washer bleep once to say they are done. If you open the dishwasher door without switching off it does a bleep to let you know it is switched on.

OP another vote for trying the oven shelves the other way up. Mine have a bit of a curve, put them one way and they stop the shelve pulling all the way out, but the other way they are an accident waiting to happen.

Our dishwasher has no indicator to let you know it is on. It's really quiet at the start of a cycle, so you press the on button and... Nothing happens.

Dp is frequently to be found crouching in the kitchen with an ear pressed up against the dishwasher muttering "Is it on? Should I press it again? Ssshh! I think I heard something!" Followed by a stream of expletives as he pulls the door open to 'check' and is rewarded with a stream of hot water at ankle height.

Grin It's possible that dp is the spanner.

my oven has adjustable shelves (I.e universal shelves as you can squeeze/pull to get them to fit any oven) which sounds great until the oven gets hot at which point they may or may not adjust themselves and fall off taking whichever hot dish with it... sometimes squashing the hot dish on the shelf below!!!

Perhaps your dishwasher could come to an arrangement with my fridge, TheBear, which does have a light to tell you it's on.

A light. To tell you the fridge is on. Erm, why in the name of smeg would a fridge ever NOT be on?

It just wastes my time when I glance into the kitchen and think, "Oh, something needs attention."

PausingFlatly · 27/08/2014 10:35

The Bosch washing machine can have its bleep switched off, so worth reading the manual carefully for the dishwasher too.

My Smeg fridge freezer farts

Our beeping dishwasher is a Miele. I have followed the instructions of holding down a series of buttons to get it to switch off. Nothing works.

Apparently this is true of virtually all toasters on the market. Each toaster in intended to be sold in many countries, and British bread comes in bigger slices than they are designed for. When I was last shopping for a toaster there was only one that boasted that it was actually designed for the British market, and therefore would toast a whole slice of bread. (I don't remember the brand, didn't buy it because didn't come in the colour I wanted.)

VeryStressedMum · 28/08/2014 21:13

Fraidycat, i never knew that..this explains why i stand at the toaster, pop it up halfway through and flip the bread so i don't get half toast half hot bread Hmm

TheBearAndTheBug · 29/08/2014 08:03

Pils who live in France keep a pair of wooden tweezer things next to the toaster so they can get the toast out. So they don't work for French bread either.
