To HATE loud eaters/breathers

I think I have misophonia, is that a real thing even? I can not stand listening to my dp eat or even breathe, I can hear him from across the room, it fills me with genuine hatred for him listening to his exhale so loudly through his nose and churn food around his gob.
Driving me crazy!! I'm stuck with this...for the rest of my life Blush
(Lighthearted thread, don't need any LTB please Wink )

I totally get it! My husbands chewing noises have driven me mental for over 20 years. Sometimes I just make the excuse that I have to use the loo and leave the room for a few moments... No breathing mouse-related cringes (but his father, on the other hand...)

peppersaunt · 26/08/2014 20:06

That would be "noise"-related!

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 26/08/2014 20:08

hahahahahah,

one of the reasons I divorced my husband was because he used to shovel food into his mouth so forcefully that every time he put a mouthful of food it the fork used to bang against his teeth and make a "ting" sound.

I literally had to stop sitting opposite him at dinner time because I was worried I wouldn't be able to stop myself from reaching across the dinner table and throttling him

DoJo · 26/08/2014 20:11

I don't think anyone likes the sound of someone eating or breathing loudly to be honest. Does your husband have a cold or blockage which makes it hard for him to breathe?

IAMACLANGER · 26/08/2014 20:22

I detest cutlery against teeth. And I detest cutlery against cutlery. I shiver. If I had this constantly I have no idea what I'd do....

sweetnessandlite · 26/08/2014 20:27

I hate listening to some people swallow food.
There's this loud swallow, followed by a liquidy, slimy, gloopy sound as the food slithers down their gullet.

Strangely enough, I don't mind listening to people swallowing liquids. Probably because it's supposed to sound like liquid going down. It's expected.
But when food sound liquid going down....yuck.

I'm a strange 'un Confused

ouryve · 26/08/2014 20:30

DH does this if he's eating or drinking while wearing earphones. Chomp chomp sniff slurp gulp.... He gets yelled at for it.

pimple · 26/08/2014 20:35

What a relief to know I am not alone, DH drives me bonkers with his blocked nose breathing when eating I could grab him by the throat! He says it is just me that finds it annoying and everyone makes a noise when they eat. Glad to hear others find it annoying too.....

Phew......

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 26/08/2014 20:45

I hate it too.

Fortunately dh isn't a noisy eater or I would have to say something.

We once went for Sunday dinner at a friends house and the pair of them are noisy eaters. He slammed his fork into the food clattering the plate then shovelled into his mouth and chewed, slopped and gulped it down forkfull after forkfull after fucking horrendous forkfull.

I daren't look at dh.

Oddly enough I find it cute when babies are eating solids for the first time and make noises.

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 26/08/2014 20:47

My heckles go up every time I hear someone eating noisily so you are not alone! Even the dog gets an evil stare if she is too loud.

Bambamboom · 26/08/2014 20:53

Glad it's not just me & I too can tolerate it fine with little children but for some reason I just can't stand it when adults do it.
Dh does it A) because he puts way too much food in his mouth so it churns around and takes ages to swallow and B) because he seems to have some strange nasal issue suddenly come on, he can't even breathe with out it making a racket, maybe it's because he smokes?
Either way it really irritates me, occasionally I catch myself glaring across the table at him in my angry "zone" I slip into when he does it! Blush

I hate cutlery scraping plates, and the noise of scraping the last traces of yoghurt out of the pot. And noisy eaters in general.

iklboo · 26/08/2014 20:58

BIL 3 sounds like a sump draining when he eats. Truly, truly disgusting mouth open, gob smacking wouldn't be out of place in a zoo noises.

FIL usually ends up with food round his mouth / on his chin like a toddler. HOW can he not feel it?

DH is an occasional spoon off the teeth clacker, but he can feel the glare when he does it. He does crunch booked sweets horribly noisily though.

frankie5 · 26/08/2014 21:00

I have this! I can't even sleep in the same bed as DH any more as he breathes so loudly. And when we sit and watch TV he slurps his tea! Can this be grounds for divorce? Grin

But for some reason luckily I'm not bothered about his eating noises.

HerRoyalNotness · 26/08/2014 21:02

Oh gosh, I'm the same!

I want to throw something at his head.

I'm a bit sensitive to noise though.

Claybury · 26/08/2014 21:02

OP are you my DH? he complains when I breathe and eat. He says I even breathe when I sleep. Outrageous. Maybe one day I'll stop. then he'll be sorry

Teddy - I loathe DH 's cutlery scraping. He seems to attack a bowl of ice cream with ridiculous vigour. I have considered buying him plastic cutlery.

Ear plugs for the night, radio at meals.

MrsWhiskersonTheFirst · 26/08/2014 21:05

I work with a guy who clinks his fork against his teeth and chews really loudly and slurps. It drives me crazy! I try to avoid being around him during breaks/lunch time as much as possible.

MrsWhiskersonTheFirst · 26/08/2014 21:06

Also - people who 'chew' yoghurt. I can hear their teeth clicking together. Wtf are they chewing - it's smooth!

MissWing · 27/08/2014 19:31

Loving this thread. I get the rage when people get the hiccups! My MIL, who I ordinarily love, eats with her mouth open and gets the hiccups every mealtime!

bananaleaf · 27/08/2014 19:35

Argh YANBU I'm married to one too! And his whole family speak with their mouth full, it's disgusting and embarrassing. MIL is the worst so can't expect her to have taught him otherwise. Confused

WittgensteinsBunny · 27/08/2014 19:36

Nope. YANBU. Used to give my sister no end of grief for her slow, loud chomping. Still do, it's beyond gross and turns my stomach. Worse still, used to sit next to my boss at work who made the most revolting noise when eating an apple. The loud initial bits followed by gratuitous loud chomping. Surge, makes my skin crawl thinking of it now. In fact, it was so bad, I was known for leaving the room as the apple came out of the bag Grin

WittgensteinsBunny · 27/08/2014 19:37

Surge? Should read Eurgh!
