to think that you should be able to wash sofa cushion covers without them disintergrating?

We had a new sofa delivered about 6 weeks ago from a well known high street furniture store. This morning DD1 was sick on the sofa cushion. The covers are removable so I quickly chucked it in the washing machine. When I took it out DH and I noticed that there was a lot of thread hanging loose and upon closer inspection the fabric has actually unraveled at the seams and there is a gaping hole. I have checked the care guide and nowhere does it say not suitable for machine washing.

Spoke to customer services and was told that they would not be able to do anything as we had "brought it on ourselves"!

AIBU to think that if the cover was not suitable for washing they should explicitly say that in the care guide? AIBU to expect a replacement seat cover?

If things don't have washing instructions, I think it's probably a sign that they shouldn't be chucked in the machine, or that you do so at your own risk.

We have a new sofa too, and had to wash the covers. The instructions actually said that the removable covers were not suitable for washing, and should only be wiped with a damp cloth Confused.

We clearly bought a show sofa by mistake, not one that can cope with actual family life Grin so I put them in the machine on 30 degrees, and they come out OK.

I'd push for replacement covers if I were you though, they should surely be able to cope with a single wash.

Result. They have decided I was not bu and they should have explicitly said do not machine wash so we're getting a new cover Smile
