So my younger brother (18) has tasks to do in return for lifts here and there. One of these is to cut the lawn. He hasn't done the front one in a good few months and it looked like a bit of a jungle. We all refused to do it as it's DBs job and it was up to him to get it done even though the longer he left it the harder it'd be.

Well yesterday we were all out and someone appears to have snuck in and done the front lawn! AIBU to find this really funny?
No one ever mentioned to us that they wanted it done or anything. I would understand if people didn't like it much but they could have said something rather than sneak in and do it themselves!

Why didn't your DB take the credit and say he did it?

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 25/08/2014 12:56

Wondering how long I'd have to leave it before someone would do it for me now?

I'd leave them a bowl of milk or something

Bettercallsaul1 · 25/08/2014 13:05

I just didn't want to leave the OP alawn with her problem.

Bettercallsaul1 · 25/08/2014 13:16

I, too, would be agrassed at not knowing the mystery mower's identity. Are there any neighbours you can weed out?

Bettercallsaul1 · 25/08/2014 13:19

I expect they're garden their secret.

Bifauxnen · 25/08/2014 13:26

I will bow out grassfully.

Bettercallsaul1 · 25/08/2014 13:52

I, too, will put myself out to pasture.

Muskey · 25/08/2014 14:40

Love you two you should meet up talk some grass

nocoolnamesleft · 25/08/2014 14:47

It's getting too much. Turf them off the thread!

Muskey · 25/08/2014 14:53

If we did that there might be a turf war

WeirdCatLady · 25/08/2014 14:54

I wouldn't find it funny that my garden was in such a state that some stranger felt they had to come and sort it out. I think your brother needs to seriously keep on top of his jobs and not let your house become "that house". I'd be mortified.

Bettercallsaul1 · 25/08/2014 15:25

nocool - I knew someone would start mow-ning!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/08/2014 15:31

It will be a lawn time before someone fesses up.

foxinthebox · 25/08/2014 15:39

Not embarrassed for the OP. The circumstances are funny!

Bifauxnen · 25/08/2014 16:58

Do you think OP will return or is a cut and run mow-er likely?

MostAmused · 25/08/2014 17:15

I'm still about, but there have been no developments.
Went out and had a good look. They've done a pretty bad job actually. Just strimmed the main area, left the edges and left all the grass lying about. Tbh I think it almost looks worse!

I'm also struggling to come up with grass puns so feel a bit unworthy!

Perhaps I just need some mowtivation...

I would find this funny too OP.
Although, I didn't find it funny when a neighbour pulled up my wildflowers and then told me she'd helped by pulling up allthe weeds Hmm

Claybury · 25/08/2014 17:47

I'm always resisting the urge to pull out a couple of massive weeds from my neighbours' front steps. I want to, it would take me no time but I don't want to cause offence. Should I ?

Bifauxnen · 25/08/2014 18:02

I think it would be coweedly to pull them up behind her back. You don't want to create problems for the fuchsia.

tittifilarious · 25/08/2014 18:13

Our NDN gets the bloody nail clippers on her lawn and is constantly out pruning and clipping. Bully for her. She doesn't work, has no family and time on her hands.

We both work, are partial carers for a family member, have kids and no time but more importantly, we abhor the manicured garden look. Really not for us. And to be honest, with beautiful old sandstone walls around the back garden, it's really not in keeping. But my god, you'd think it was the frigging amazon the way she goes on. I don't know why she's arsed - she can only see what our garden looks like if she's nosing in! She'd be just the type of controlling busybody to do that and I'd give her both barrels if she did.

Also, if a neighbour DID want to sell their house and thought your messy front might prevent a sale, surely any normal person would knock and say "I know this will come across as really cheeky, but would you mind me giving your grass a quick once over. I know you're busy but I've got a viewer coming round and you know what selling houses is like!"

Bettercallsaul1 · 25/08/2014 19:52

Agree that you should leave the weeds alone, Claybury - you're just digging a hole for yourself. Compost a polite letter instead and avoid a can of worms. Agree with Bifauxnen that you should focus on the fuchsia - don't rake up the past.

I spray weed killer on my neighbours paths in the dead of night, I know this isn't normal but our neighbourhood is becoming so run down. I want to sell up and move and no one has any pride anymore. I blame it on TV; all this shite about makeovers and shit.
