To think this job won't get finished today?

We're having our bay windows replaced today, which also involves removing about a foot of brickwork from under the existing windows to make our house look the same as the other houses. The new windows will start lower than the existing ones.

When they quoted, the company (small, local, came recommended) said "we'll get there really early to make a good start to ensure that the new windows are fitted and sealed in by the end of the day".

Surprise surprise, it's 10am and they're not here. Apparently they will be here in the next 30 minutes, but they also said that an hour ago. I think they are stalling because it is raining here (not heavily though, light drizzle atm).

I'm worried that at the end of the day I'll be left with a huge gaping hole at the front of the house. Hmm

Does anyone have any experience of how quickly this kind of job can get finished please?

Doesn't help that I've been sitting by the front door waiting since 7am (no doorbell)!

We had nearly our whole house done (sitting room, kitchen, four bedrooms and bathroom) in one November day. I got home from work and there was just one window left to do. It was a cold, miserable day so I went to work to be warm. Grin. (Other windows - patio doors, toilet, back door window were done on another occasion). There was no mess left and it still looks good 35 years later.

Perhaps your window company needs a bricklayer to deal with the brickwork first - so it's his timing that's at fault?
