For me, its a close run thing between The lion the witch and the wardrobe - despite having to miss the whole bit where Aslan dies, and any of E nesbits stories involving the Psammead or the pheonix. For when DD was younger, it was The cat in the hat, all the slinky malinki and hairy maclary stories.

yep - blatant TAAT :)

The Paper Dolls, and in fact most of Julia Donaldson's books, bar one or two.
Dogs Don't Do Ballet
I Hate School
The Worst Princess
The Paper Bag Princess
Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs
The Incredible Book Eating Boy
and loads more...

EmpressOfBedlam · 23/08/2014 23:29

Winnie the witch. Or Ronald Dahl, Enormous crocodile at the mo but The Twits will feature very soon!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 23/08/2014 23:29

It's poetry, I love it!

MassaAttack · 23/08/2014 23:30

Any of the Moomins.

I miss bedtime stories :(

Hoolit · 23/08/2014 23:32

Pass the jam jim, short and sweet and dd would join in it was lovely.
Also, the night before Christmas and the one with all the animals around the Christmas tree but the name escapes me at the mo.

MassaAttack · 23/08/2014 23:33

Ds would make me run his finger over the writing, which 'looped and curled and said... Save the Whale'

Happy days. Although to be fair, teenagers also have their plus points and I probably did find bedtime stories a little tedious after a decade Wink

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 23/08/2014 23:35

Smile I imagine Julia Donaldson might wear thin after 10 years

BookABooSue · 23/08/2014 23:36

pictish I love the Paperbag Princess - it's my favourite story but DS never asks for it Sad He was too confused by the concept that the prince was mean to the princess, and then the princess called him a 'bum'. He has quite a rigid moral compass at the moment Grin but I read it to him every now and again to see if he can appreciate it yet.

pictish · 23/08/2014 23:37

Yes...we've been reading stories for 12 years now. 3 kids...big age gap between first two.
Dh and I take it in turns to do the story.
It's terrible to say but my heart does a wee skip of relief when I realises it's dh's turn.

I know I will look back on those days and yearn a bit though.

Cuddlydragon · 23/08/2014 23:38

My Granny is a Pirate by Val McDermid. Especially because my DS keeps asking my poor DM to throw her handbag, to her complete confusion! DS can be quite insistent!

Nandocushion · 23/08/2014 23:42

Any of the Mr Gum series. DH reads them and I just sit in the next room and giggle.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 24/08/2014 00:05

My Big Shouting Day, just because the illustrations make me laugh or Tabby McTat.

Poofus · 24/08/2014 00:09

Goodnight Moon. So sad he's too big for it now. I knew it by heart.

FrancesNiadova · 24/08/2014 07:38

Room on the Broom. I used to love doing all the voices!

autumnmum · 24/08/2014 08:25

When the DCs were younger Peepo Baby or Cops and Robbers by Allan Ahlberg. Now they older and we read chapter books to them I am enjoying introducing thr delights of Terry Pratchet to them. Truckers for the youngest and the Tiffany Aching books with the oldest.

Mellowdramatically · 24/08/2014 08:30

Snail and the whale
Room on the broom
Loved them both - ds at 11 doesn't want them now :(

JamaicanMeCrazy · 24/08/2014 09:06

Jack and the Flum Flum Tree

pourmeanotherglass · 24/08/2014 09:09

I like reading anything funny - Mr gum, Roald Dahl, David Walliams.

Onethirdamidwife · 24/08/2014 09:21

I ?? most of Julia Donaldson's books - stick man, squash & squeeze, monkey puzzle and the gruffalo. Love dr suess especially Oliver boliver butt (my little bro's nickname) but youngest isn't up to them yet.
Love there's an ouch in my pouch and middle dd has a cracking oz accent because of it!!

Can't wait til they are both old enough for the faraway tree - my favourite book ever!!!

currently those kitty lacey hairdresser books which dd2 (6) reads to me. If I am reading ti her she would normally choose a book called once we're giants I think it's called, it's a lovely book that we got free with book start Smile or Dr Seuss! dd1 doesn't like me to read to her anymore but she reads harry potter usually Smile

trixymalixy · 24/08/2014 10:25

Each peach pear plum and the Gruffalo are my favourites.

Josie314 · 24/08/2014 12:58

One Ted falls out of bed

MuseumOfHam · 24/08/2014 13:09

Just started How to Train Your Dragon, it's an absolute delight. Had a night out on Friday so DH did bedtime. Last night I opened the book where we left off and DS pipes up 'me and Daddy read that bit last night', and I was, 'but, but...I haven't read it yet!'

Icimoi · 24/08/2014 13:10

Ivor the Engine. I love reading them in a terrible Welsh accent. Also Winnie the Pooh, because I can have fun doing Eeyore in a nasal Alan Bennett voice.

The one that strikes terror into my heart is Thomas the Tank Engine. They always make me more sleepy than DS, but I daren't skip any because he always notices and springs back to life with indignation that any of the hallowed story has been missed.
