to ask for actual proper sleeping tablets from my GP to help me sleep?

My inability to sleep is pushing me over the edge.

I've had two temazepam prescriptions before (2001 and 2004 iirc). Would GP refuse to let me have a third?

I honestly fear for myself if I can't get some decent hours of kip in some time soon.

I feel for you op, I have severe insomnia and often feel sick through lack of sleep.

My GP has prescribed me Zopiclone for two years now. Enough for two nights on and one night off. Predictably though my body got used to it so it became less effective. I now take Amiltryptiline as well as Zopliclone.

I have tried everything possible and I do mean everything.....I have spent a fortune.

However, a couple of weeks ago I bought some Clipper Sleep Easy tea bags in another desperate attempt. I drink two cups before bed and to my amazement I have had better sleep this week...might be worth a try.

Another one here, but due to threads on MN I feel less isolated, which doesn't make the problem go away, but it helps a bit.

I feel like death warmed up when I wake up and I am FED UP of it.

My sleep varies from 'slept from 12-7 but slept lightly/woke up frequently' to 'didn't sleep all night - literally wide awake' and everything in between.

It doesn't matter if I am busy, exercise, eat well - nothing seems to help.

I don't have any aversion to taking drugs to help, but while they help you to 'sleep' do they actually make you feel like you have slept? Do you wake up feeling like you want to get up? Do you have any more energy the next day?

The things I tried didn't, so there didn't seem any point for me. I mean, I don't care if I am asleep or awake, I just want to feel like I have some energy. If that makes sense?

I am FED up of having to drag myself around and make myself do every little thing, everything is a chore - and never having the energy to want to do something.

I have a supply of sleeping tabs - Zimovane - I have 28 and they have lasted me a year - I take them when I am on my knees with tiredness just to get one decent night

hope your GP will help you Thanks

oh yeh and I've tried white noise, ear plugs, lavender (baths, spray, pillows, calms, routine (warm bath, milk, bed) yoga, meditation ...you name it!!!!

madasa · 22/08/2014 09:09

Ah but Gordy have you tried relaxation Cds ;)

My sleep isn't reliably good - a while ago I went to the GP in desperation when I was crying through lack of sleep and she prescribed me 30 Zopiclone. I used to take one when I was desperate for a good night's sleep (once a week? once a fortnight?) and they got me back on track.

I still don't sleep well but haven't felt I've needed another prescription since then: I manage it with sleepy tea, valerian and so on. My sister swears by Nytol so I have some but haven't tried it yet.

Morris Zapp-are those Kirkland Sleep Aid's any good?

I was going to order some-reviews look good but always better to hear from a real person that they work.

I know how annoying it is when people say, have you tried this, have you tried that, but I wanted to mention the book 'effortless sleep'. Can't remember the name of the author but it is fantastic. It has really helped me with my insomnia and I think it has also helped me avoid the sleep related post natal anxiety I had with DS1 this time around (DS2 is currently 4 weeks), although it isn't really meant for situations in which you are being awakened every few hours by an external source, more for internal problems.
I got the book on Kindle for under 3 pounds so even if you are sceptical it is probably worth a look.

I have Promethazine on repeat prescription which sorted out my sleep issues, I don't actually take it every night but it works when I do need it.

I also do Mindfulness meditations and have tried to improve my sleep hygiene as I used to be pretty bad. No more looking at my phone in bed (especially bad in the dark), drinking caffeine late on in the day, take a bath before bed if I'm feeling antsy, if I'm tossing and turning then get up and do something like read or a crossword for half an hour rather than just lie there.

Hope that helps.

If any of you are planning a holiday in Mexico or Central America budget in some money (US dollars) for whatever it is that works for you. You can get drugs only prescribed here OTC and very cheap there, even Zoloft and Xanax.

Mexico is cheapest.

Yes, the Kirkland Sleepaid works well ime, it does get me to sleep. You do have to take it as far before bed as you can, and it leaves me groggy in the morning. It's a risk/ benefit balance. Strong cuppa usually gets me going.
