To be a bit worried about possible Ebola case in Ireland?

Story here

Apparently the victim was a man who has passed away. He had recently returned from Sierra Leone. It may turn out to be something else but it's really worrying.

MSF have been saying for a couple of weeks that this outbreak is out of control but no one seems to be doing very much. I know it's supposed to be low risk of transmission but it's still spreading Confused

I wish all ebola cases could get such care. It really underlines the inequity in this world.

It does, yes. Although I think sadly the patient flown to Spain did not survive.

All you have to do is wash your hands.

temporaryusername · 24/08/2014 08:47

Hmm, not so sure about that Hakluyt. Pretty sure that the US doctor and aid worker were wise to that trick! Ditto the doctor and others who tried to help the man who collapsed at the airport in Lagos. I am not one of the panic spreaders on this at all, but I think it is clear from what we've seen that this is not as easy as just regular hand washing.

Sorry- should have said- unless you are a HCP or someone else in direct contact with cases of Ebola all you have to do is wash your hands.

It will keep on spreading whilst there is a lack of education and resources, we however have both of those so if a case did happen over here it would quickly be contained.

My OH works in Guinea and is currently out at work- due to fly home in a few weeks and he says steps are being put into place in some of the larger work places- where he works everyone has their temperature checked 6 times a day and any increase in temp means monitoring in the medical area and quarantine until a blood test result.

However with such a high level of poverty and mistrust amongst the locals there just isn't the man power to get the same level of prevention rolled out country wide which is why it is still spreading.
