to throw the lamp at the bus driver!

I bought a upright lamp off a girl from gumtree. Went to pick it up today en route to drop some letters off at estate agents. I ended up getting the bus to estate agents as it was more of a pita to carry than anticipated!
Then went to get the bus back home and the bus driver refused as "we dont accept lamps on the bus"

WTF!!! exact same bus company as had let me on without a glance earlier AND when I got off and walked onto the bus directly behind (again same company) the driver didnt bat an eyelid.

it didnt cause me a massive problem as buses come every 2 minutes to where I live but grrrr I hate this bus company!!!!Angry have seen their drivers screaming at old people to "get off quicker", speed up and slam breaks on before stopping and even witnessed one of these buses mounting the kerb, hitting a girl and then driving off!!!!!

this was the final straw, bloody wanker....

so mn jury wibu to hunt down the driver and beat him to a pulp with my lamp on behalf of all passengers being robbed blind by the worlds worst bus company?!?!?!

"We don't accept lamps on the bus"

... Confused

It sounds as though he's had a bad experience with a lamp on a bus before or something! Did he say why?

bustraintram · 20/08/2014 20:29

YWBVVU to lamp hit the driver with a lamp-they get enough abuse as it is! But I can see your annoyance. TBF, a bus company with buses every two minutes can't be that bad, and often what can and can't be carried is down to driver discretion, not a company wide policy. I doubt the bus company has a "carriage of lamps" policy!

Out of interest, is it a local company or a national one?

CombineBananaFister · 20/08/2014 20:31

Does anyone else use the term 'to lamp someone' when they mean 'to hit' or is it just a Yorkshire thing? Not that I go arounding 'lamping' people very often Grin just made me chuckle (but I don't get out much) Blush

Yanbu - if the lamp was not taking up paying customers space or not chandeliar styley, made of copious amounts of delicate glass and therefore a hazard.

They wouldn't allow me on with pillows once Confused. He needs to jobswap with someone in Nothern Spain for a week. I've been on the bus with someone's smelly catch of the day and a live chicken.

spiritofthetime · 20/08/2014 22:19

Think I would have said he could keep it as it might help him light-en up a bit Smile

Jelliebabe2 · 20/08/2014 22:26

Buswanker! Lol

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 20/08/2014 23:34

combine I've heard of lamping someone in the NW of England Grin but don't hear that phrase in the Home Counties.

OP maybe he thought it could be a danger to other passengers, like a trip hazard or someone could injure themselves if he had to slam on and someone fell into it? Or maybe he was being arsey.

Topaz25 · 20/08/2014 23:39

They have a policy against unboxed glass items as they might shatter, I had the same problem with a computer monitor once. Elf and safety.

primarynoodle · 21/08/2014 09:11

its a cheapo plastic one I think he was jusy being an arsehole!

it is a national company.... dont think im allowed to name it on here am I? but youll probs have hearf of it im sure!

lol at buswanker and lamping the driver Grin

Lamp is used to mean hit in London too i think.

What happened about the driver who mounted the pavement and drove off?

HibiscusIsland · 21/08/2014 09:23

Meant to say who mounted the pavement and hit someone then drove off

sparechange · 21/08/2014 09:51

Haha, what was a lamp going to do?
There is a bus route near me that goes a bit around the houses, and stops outside a large DIY store. Except they won't let anyone on with paint, large bags, plants or any of the other things you would usually buy in a DIY store

it's stagecoach

I actually kept in touch with the girl I said I would be a witness, it happened nearly 3 months ago but thankfully she was thrown into a lampost so only got a bruise (otherwise would have been smashed head first into the pavement!) and stagecoach have said because she was hit from behind so didnt know what number bus it was (road encompasses about 15 different sc routes) and didnt know the exact time (she gave them an approx 10 min interval) it will be too much work to look through all the bus cctv to find which one hit her!!!! Shock I told her to call the police id like to see the company use that excuse with them!!! cheeky bastards

Stagecoach drivers vary from lovely, to complete and utter bastards.
I'm pretty sure there isn't any policy about bringing random purchases home. I took a massive antique clothes airer for a journey last week, and I don't think the driver even noticed.

primarynoodle · 21/08/2014 10:31

it was more the fact that to get to that bus stop I had been on a stagecoach bus to get there! and then got on the stagecoach bus DIRECTLY BEHIND the buswanker bus Hmm

Did you complain?

When I was very young I remember my DM, DSis and I had been in town for the day and while we were there had been brought novelty cups (sort if like the plastic lidded kind a frappuchino comes in but more substantial). We get to go on the bus to go home but the bus driver refuses as as no drinks are allowed on the bus. My DM says something along the lines of 'they're sealed, it's ok, I'll put them away in my bag'. But the bus driver still refuses to let us on. Cue my DM dragging me and my DSis off down the road to the bus depot to complain!

If she can complain over the bus driver trying to uphold a no food/drinks rule then you can definitely complain over a lamp. He can't just go making up rules. What if there hadn't been another bus 2mins away?

primarynoodle · 21/08/2014 16:02

forgot another thing id seen! this one was awful..

around christmas last year, really dark rainy and cold and about 9pm the company transport police (not real police) come on and check everyones tickets, little old man who had bought his ticket before me couldnt find mine and they threw him off the bus in the middle of a really rough area! my friend offered to rebuy his ticket as he had no money but they said unless we or he would pay the full fine for no ticket (£20) none of us had enough money so they made him get off the bus! Sad
