If you are under 25 do it. If not, don't be silly. You will break something and look daft.

LadyLuck10 · 19/08/2014 13:51

Depends on age.

DogCalledRudis · 19/08/2014 13:59

My DC do it and it looks so much fun... Why can't i? I'm 30+

DS and friends tried to teach me when I was about 35, I have all the coordination of a spider on rollerskates so it didn't end well Blush
That said, our local skatepark (biggest concrete bowl in Europe!) has a range of ages and it certainly wouldn't raise any eyebrows to see someone late 40's/50's up there, especially blading.

MrsWinnibago · 19/08/2014 14:20

I tried when I was 17 and it's frigging lethal. Just warning you.

TheGoop · 19/08/2014 14:20

My slightly over-weight late 30s husband sometimes takes his skateboard to the nearest skate park. The kids look at him with adoring eyes and sometimes clap. There seems to be something awesome about a grown man doing tricks they can't do yet.

If you think this will be you then I recon you should Wink

Stinkle · 19/08/2014 14:24

Do it!

Just the fact that I exist seems to embarrass my children, so I might as well have some fun

Skateboarding didn't end well here though - buggered my elbow when I went one was and the skateboard went the other

It's acceptable to take up a more longboard style of skate boarding in your 30s as a mode of transport (depending on where you live, ie is there a board walk or similar, and whether you have quite a 'young' style/lifestyle anyway), but stay away from the skate parks/ramps or you'll definitely risk looking a bit of a desperate nob...! Also, as a fairly sporty person myself (& similar risk stuff - mtbing, snowboarding, etc), it was at about 32-33 that I began to notice bits started to seize up/drop off (!!) so bear that in mind?!

Otherwise....... Good luck!!!!! :)

StoneFoxMama · 19/08/2014 14:27

I skate (mostly aggressive quad now though) and I'm 32. Go for it!

silverstreak · 19/08/2014 14:36

Forgot to add, that's if you really care what other people think in that department! :)

DogCalledRudis · 19/08/2014 14:56

This weekend i'll be sure how it goes... DC know ambulance numbers........

Do it!
I think life's way too short to worry about looking 'unseemly' rather than learn a new skill.

OK, you probably will look like a bit of a twat if you decide to wear a baseball cap backwards, hold your thumbs aloft Paul-McCartney style and yell "Yo homies, check this sick grind! I'm so stoked I'm blazing!" at your kids, but skateboarding in itself is perfectly fine. Be prepared for some aches afterwards, if not bumps while you're doing it!
