BBQ I know an operation is always scary but honestly this surgery is much easier than the actual gallstones. A wee bit of pain afterwards is inevitable but a couple of paracetamol or whatever and it's manageable. Good luck. Please try not to worry about it.

BBQSteak · 22/08/2014 16:30

thanks I'm going to try not to worry about the bloody thing

I got buscopan! It didn't help, Ibuprofen and panadol worked but I ended up in out of hours one night and they gave me morphine. Knocked me out for 48 hours, woke up pain was back, got admitted and they finally gave me tramadol for it. Was glad 3 days later when they operated!

Getting my gallbladder removed was one of the best decisions I've ever made! A few shooting pains in my shoulders from the gas they pump into you and difficulty in getting up from a chair but more or less ok in a week. I was well enough to run a 10k three weeks later and made it round in just over 60 mins!. It was well worth it not to live in fear of an attack all the time.

MrsBungle · 22/08/2014 16:51

Yanbu op. I've been prescribed oramorph for my gallbladder attacks. I'm awaiting the op and I'm having loads of attacks, no matter what I eat. Some attacks are "minor" and I can cope with no pain relief. Some are "medium" and I take cocodamol or 60/500 codeine. Other attacks - the severe ones, I have to take the oramorph. They gave it to me as it had stopped me from having to go to a and e. The pain on one of the severe attacks could not be coped with. It is completely unmanageable. The first time I had one I thought I was having a heart attack and about to die. I gave birth to my first child with no pain relief and forceps, I'm not a wimp. You should see another doctor op, they did go through different pain reliefs before I got to oramorph but it's necessary. I can't wait for the operation. Hope you get sorted soon.

Glad you've got your operation date OP. I'm waiting to see a specialist and am waiting for codeine to kick in.

ButtonBoo · 22/08/2014 20:42

Bless you. Terrible, terrible pain.

You can't get morphine like at hospital on prescription, just much milder meds. My GP gave me a prescription for pethidine which helped. But didn't take the pain away like morphine and basically chilled me out enough to tolerate the pain.

Gallstones are pure evil...

Darkesteyes · 22/08/2014 21:15

And society STILL doesnt fucking learn While people keep being encouraged to lose weight quickly there will be more and more gallstone cases. Angry

Agree BBQ But its not just the fact that its her.

Its the fact that this programme is just one of MANY competitive weight loss programmes that advocate and even push speedy weight loss. Which is one of the things that causes gallstones. Its dangerous and it MUST stop. Imagine the complaints if there was a tv series about coming off alcohol and drugs at a rate of knots! There would be a debate in parliament and on Channel 4 news and Dispatches about how and why such an irresponsible tv series was made. But irresponsible advice on how to lose weight even though it is unhealthy and dangerous to do so? Hmmm Not so much. In fact.......not a whisper!

mineallmine · 22/08/2014 22:24

BBQSteak, I'm glad you're surviving. Please don't worry about the op, it's a piece of cake. The attacks are a million trillion times worse than the discomfort post-op. It's done via keyhole surgery so no major stitches to heal. After I had my op, my colleagues brought me flowers and I remember thinking that it was when I had the attacks that I needed the sympathy, not then when I was on the mend! You won't know yourself when it's all over, you'll never look back. You just can't understand the pain unless you've felt it.
