To be nervous about going back to work?

I go back to work in two weeks and am feeling more and more nervous about it.

I love my job (I am a primary school teacher) but a lot has changed at school and the school are looking to improve their Ofsted rating.

One of the things that is being changed is observations. On top of the one every half term, the Senior leadership team are also implementing daily drop ins every single day at unspecified times Hmm.

The thought of this is making me nervous... I get so nervous about observations and feel sick etc before hand and I'm just worried that I might feel like this everyday which won't make me a good teacher if I am on edge all of the time.

Anyone else been through similar? I am considering leaving for another school if the pressure seems too much but would rather not as this is very convenient for my own children etc.

Anyone else been in this situation... How did you handle it?

Understandably you're nervous how long you been off?
Don't get in a what if spiral.wait and see what happens
And good luck

Every day! Shock

I'm a TA who worked alongside a NQT last term, the obs were an arse as we had a difficult class.

The thought of a daily visit from SLT would piss me off no end.

No help sorry but you have my sympathy.

Providing the observations are done in a constructive way and there is a standard policy, with a good feedback mechanism, then it's a good thing.

How can a school possibly improve teaching and learning without observations, which lead to feedback and then development.

All schools need to continually look at how they can improve teaching and learning and observations will be part of this in all schools - not just your current one.

Have you thought about discussing your concerns with the Head or your Mentor? I have had this issue where I work and have done some coaching session with Learning Managers (similar to teachers, but with with adults) to help them look at ways of over-coming their fear about observations. They have come up with things like planning well, identify areas for development, co-teaching on new areas.

It sounds like you could also do with speaking to your Head or Mentor about any changes and what is likely to impact on you when you go back.
