To think bosses are paid too much

Or people are paid too little relative to one another

The pay gap report has found CEO's of FTSE 100 companies are paid 148 times more than their average workers. 175 times more than the average salary.

This has changed. In 1980 it was between 6 and 44 times. Even In 1998 it was 47 times. Our economy and the companies were more successful then so pay does not reflect success or trickle down to the rest of the economy.

John Lewis cap it at 1:75

AIBU to think this needs some sort of legislation? It needs fixing. Or at least revising.

I think nobody's salary should be so low that they need tax credits from the government in order to survive.
We can argue till the cows come home about what it means to 'survive' in our current society but you can't argue with the fact that even the government seems to agree that extra income is required for workers on the minimum wage. This is the tragedy. Minimum wage should be a 'living wage'.

If, raising 'workers' salaries means that there's less money for either bosses' salaries or for shareholders then so be it. But if a company can pay their bosses a ridiculous amount and pay their lowest paid workers a living wage, and leave some profit for shareholders, then all credit to them.

I work in a large company (FTSE 100) where our frontline employees have a lot of responsibility and I've been aware of the fact for a while now that these colleagues could earn more if they worked full time in Iceland (with far less responsibilities and expectations).

I've raised this with the Powers That Be and although most acknowledge that we need to increase our lower pay rates to get better quality staff (pay peanuts get monkeys) they basically say that to give them a decent rate of pay will make the company unprofitable.

It really bothers me, to the extent that it will be a consideration in my next job move, as I'm not comfortable with the constant shoving extra jobs on these people when they're already IMHO underpaid.

Op if as you say you thunk you're paid too much, make voluntary donation to govt or charity
Live on the average wage,as opposed tomyour 4x average.if your conscience is troubled
If you feel you're overpaid, hand back a proportion?

Er, scottishmummy my comment about my salary was to say I'm not suggesting one rule for me and another for everyone else.
I'm not doing the salary equivalent of nimby ism by saying 'too high' is just above me. I think inequality should be broadly rebalanced, and that could, maybe should, negatively impact me.
You were the one to get unnecessarily personal about it with your 'you try being a manager' comments. I am a manager and I am well paid. But no where near the league of the millions paid to those CEOs my post was about.

And for what it's worth I give plenty to charity.
