AIBU?

To not stop my 3yo being a dog?

DD is 3, one of her favourite games is being a 'DD Doggy' and she does the following commands - sit, lie down, roll over, stay and while she is being a DD Doggy she'll only do something you tell/ask her to do if you say Doggy after your request.

DP thinks we should stop her from being a dog as 'it's not right, is it?' and because of the request thing I mentioned up there ^^.

I think it's fine, she loves pretending to be a dog, she using her imagination well and that is healthy!

Who is being unreasonable?

My son (3) currently enjoys being a burrito. I have to add refried beans, jalapenos, grated cheese, guacamole etc all in the right order and then wrap him up in the towel tortilla before eating him. I think being a dog sounds remarkably tame Grin

I was a dog and all sorts of other animals for the majority of my childhood. What's weird is the fact that your DH actually has an issue with it, surely imaginative play is just what lots of kids do?

Penguin- just shows how time moves on! 16 years ago, my dd liked being a hot dog- but all I had to add was mustard, ketchup and onions before eating her. Didn't have exotic things like burritos in those days!

My child pretends to be a robot who is controled by the tvs remote control - i just try not to press rewind as he then starts running around the room backwards and knocks everything (including my big pile of clean washing that i should have put away) all over the place!! The pause button is my favourite!!! Grin

Me and my cousins were cats. Grandparents gave us milk on plates.

When dd pretends to be a dog she plays fetch with a little soft ball she has. When she's a cat she crawls around on the sofas squeezing behind people and trying to push them off which the actual cat enjoys too. When she's a rabbit she uses the sofas as a trampoline and bounces everywhere. Quite a menagerie here.

My 3 year old is frequently a robot. It seems pretty normal to me.

My son is a train a lot of the time and we are his carriages. Are you sure your husband understands what it means to be a child?

DD (4) is often a cat. In the mornings she gets up a lot quicker if I meow at her instead of telling her it's time for breakfast. Did your DH never pretend to be anything?

I was Harold Abrahams for ages at the same age after Chariots of Fire came out. If I remember rightly it involved having a bit of string blu-tacked across the hallway for several months.
