To think this cyclist was an entitled idiot?

I was taking 7 mo DS to the park in his pushchair. The path is along a busy road and is quite narrow. A cyclist was coming towards us on the path and I fully expected him to move onto the road so I carried on walking. He had on all the cycling gear, glasses etc, on a bike like they all had on Tour de France.
He didn't move and I couldn't take my pushchair onto the busy road. There wasn't enough space for both of us on the footpath. I stopped and he stopped about an inch away from the front wheel of my pushchair and said 'you should have moved to let me past, I'll let you off this time but please remember in future'. WTF?! It was not a designated cycle path either!
I said I can't take my pushchair onto the road it's too busy. He said 'you need to give way to cyclists'. We stood there for a moment until he moved his bike onto the road and cycled off.
If there had been somewhere to pull in, etc, I would have done to let him go past. But AIBU to think he was being a twat?!

It really doesn't matter what sort of path it is. There is no offence of "jaywalking" in the UK because, for obvious reasons, pedestrians have right of way in every circumstance.

Otherwise, entitled clowns in all types of vehicles including pushbikes would be running people down willy-nilly.

And for cycling apologists, your best time ever over your usual route is less important than the safety of pedestrians - particularly those with children. Just slow down. Please.

I cycle regularly and am a motorcyclist. Being "in the right" if I conflict with other road users is a bit moot if I'm dead as a result of being so bloody-minded! The reason other posters are so enraged by some cyclists' behaviour is that they seem to ride as if they're immortal thereby endangering everyone.

Oh fuck him he's a twat!!

vezzie. No I was in a car, and it was a car that pulled out infront of me and the driver then screamed abuse even though they were in the wrong.

I was trying to make the point that it isn't just cyclists that can be nobs.

But every time I come across a twat motorist I don't start a thread about it. But it seems to be a thing on MN that if someone comes across a twat cyclist a thread must be started. Then everyone must pile in. Then others pile in pointing out what I've pointed out.......

^^ this

Somehow, when car drivers are doing something illegal, abuse is limited to THAT driver. When a cyclist behaves like an idiot, ALL cyclists get abuse Confused

My DD played a game on the M25 yesterday whilst stuck in a slow moving jam trying to find a driver who was NOT breaking the law - lots were eating/ drinking whilst still driving along (albeit slowly), on their phones, children not seatbelted in back, had a broken breaklight etc. There were more drivers breaking the law than not, probably hurting nobody but no doubt the very same drivers who would be outraged to see a cyclist on the pavement or jumping a red light.

It's weird.

Brakelight

"Somehow, when car drivers are doing something illegal, abuse is limited to THAT driver."

I don't see this, even on this thread we have had "drivers" plural or group, On other threads I have seen "I wish drivers would give me more room" etc.

Yes, lots of drivers do things wrong but so do cyclists.

Neither should be exempt from contempt when they do something wrong.

cyclists are middle children. people keep accusing them of being paranoid, but everyone does hate them
