My DD is 3. She has just coloured in one on my cream leatherette dining chairs with a purple pen and it won't come off. She knows that she should only use pens on paper, we go through it every time she uses them. She did it on purpose and told me she'd been naughty which is infuriating. But, she is only 3 in my heart I know she doesn't understand consequences. I told her off, put her on the step and did the whole 'you have made mummy so sad..' thing. Now I'm sulking, she is running around being normal and I'm giving her one word answers because I'm so gutted. I'm being pathetic. I only bought the bloody table and chairs last year. The stupid kitten ripped a hole in one and now dd has ruined another with her bloody art work. I could cry.

GoingToBedfordshire · 14/08/2014 17:13

And a magic eraser?

MsBrunette · 14/08/2014 17:13

You've done the right thing.

Wine For you Thanks

FreeSpirit89 · 14/08/2014 17:14

Wine!!!!

It doesn't feel like it but there are more important things. It will be a funny story in years to come

DoubtfireDear · 14/08/2014 17:14

Can you colour the rest in purple so that they match?

Wine and deep breaths.

WonkoTheSane42 · 14/08/2014 17:14

I think you should cry. Inconsolably. And if she asks you why you're crying, tell her it's her fault. That really freaks children out.

LokiBear · 14/08/2014 17:14

Tried the magic eraser. I could cover them. Wine and chocolate is totally needed!

YANBU to be upset about it. You know it was just a 3 year old being 3, but it is still upsetting to have something nice ruined. I am sure there must be some way of getting the mark out. Hopefully someone will come along with a suggestion sooner or later.

babymouse · 14/08/2014 17:15

take away the pens!

LokiBear · 14/08/2014 17:17

The pens are gone! Stupid of me to give them to her really. Pencils only from now on!

We went to IKEA this week and DD1 was trying out all the sofas going "this is so lovely" etc. I snapped replied "our sofa used to be lovely too!" Blush She also spent ages playing in the little room set ups being ever so careful and dainty. I did suggest to DH that we just move into IKEA as we all covet the immaculate pretend rooms Grin

Suefla62 · 14/08/2014 17:19

Hairspray should get it off.

JimmyCorkhill · 14/08/2014 17:19

Oh yes, our cream dining chairs are now permanently stained purple thanks ELC paint, as is the laminate floor.

AliceInGallifrey · 14/08/2014 17:20

Spray hairspray on the pen and it should wipe off...

Had to do this many times - works with permanent marker also Wink

DeadSirius · 14/08/2014 17:21

Flowers and Wine you handled it brilliantly, well done on that, it can be so hard to keep cool when something like this happens.

As it's leather you might try vegetable oil, it's good at breaking down inks.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 14/08/2014 17:21

Try hairspray or baby wipes. Don't spill any of the wine on them Wink

VitoCorleone · 14/08/2014 17:23

Yes, go and drink wine, alcohol is the solution to all problems eh?

Hmm
RedToothBrush · 14/08/2014 17:26

You have a 3 year and bought a table with cream chairs last year...

YABU.

fairylightsintheloft · 14/08/2014 17:26

Oh lighten up Corleone.

LokiBear · 14/08/2014 17:29

In my defence, Red, she was a very tidy 2 year old! Grin

freyaW2014 · 14/08/2014 17:29

No offence vito but you could of given a solution yourself instead if criticise pp's trying to cheer her up!

Felts and 3 year olds don't mix too well op but these things happen, try not to overreact Flowers

LokiBear · 14/08/2014 17:29

I'm going to try the hair spray!

OP posts:
missorinoco · 14/08/2014 17:31

I feel your pain. Monosyllabic sounds anything but pathetic.

Nomama · 14/08/2014 17:33

Vito, that is not the solution - not buying cream leatherette anything until the kids are much older is the solution!

RedToothBrush · 14/08/2014 17:34
Smile

You could try hairspray. It might be worth trying white spirit too (but test it on an area that isn't visible first!).

All else fails, purple chairs are pretty fashionable!
