To just hand my fucking notice in?

I've been offered a job, a job that I never thought I'd get. The subject field interests me and the avenues to take are endless. However, the recruitment process is lengthy, and I currently still don't have a start date (documents and DBS pending)

So, being a naive twat honest with my current boss who, until recently I got on extremely well with, I told her. I wanted to give her notice on notice if you like, because I know how hard it is to fill the position I'm in.

She's basically now ignored me for two weeks.....and when she's not in a strop she's made snide remakes, refused to give me my appraisal, and said that she's waiting to kick me of the cart so she can move forward. What the hell does that mean?

I feel like a fucking mug, she's taken it personally when it's nothing of the sort. I thought I was doing the right thing, now I'm just so fucking miserable and the thought of handing in my notice now is ever more appealing.

Have you definitely got the other job? Could you tide yourself over if you left current job ASAP?

wifeandstepmum · 14/08/2014 13:29

I think we work for the same manager! Don't cut your nose off to spite your face (or whatever that crap saying is). Resign when you need to but enjoy it when you do.

edamsavestheday · 14/08/2014 13:31

What stupid cow.

DON'T hand your official notice in until you have the contract signed, though.

Good luck!

Flipflops7 · 14/08/2014 13:34

What a pain, hope all the processing is done soon and you can start the new job.

Consider it a lesson learned.

MrsWinnibago · 14/08/2014 13:36

I think you need to do something official to protect yourself. What if she's planning to sack you?

ICanSeeTheSun · 14/08/2014 13:37

Can you report her.

Meh84 · 14/08/2014 13:44

I've had a letter offering me the job with the salary details and such but it's conditional pending DBS checks.

I had an email from the HR dept yesterday, saying she hadn't sent them my reference back yet. I called her out on it yesterday and lo and behold they've now received it.

It's a huge lesson learnt. I feel sad and angry, I just never thought she'd be like this.

the only one looking after your interests is you.

congrats on the new position and learn this lesson well.

Flipflops7 · 14/08/2014 13:49

I would keep the lowest possible profile until you can hand in your notice, thereafter don't rise to any bait.

Andrewofgg · 14/08/2014 14:02

Congratulations on the new job and good luck there. You have been too nice for your own good; but hang in there. If once you get the definite go-ahead you want a break between jobs and finances allow take it, you deserve it.

julieann42 · 14/08/2014 14:11

My boss is the same..I gave her notice before my notice like you...she's been horrible since although for some reason now I have handed it in properly she has been nicer!!!! Like you I considered handing mine in early and was also waiting for DBS checks etc..I hung it out and waited for my start date before I put my notice in..just in case they suddenly withdraw the offer or they evided didn't have enough money for the post and wanted to withdraw it..

This happened to me. I thought I we be nice and gave more notice than required, got ignored and snidey remarks, had my caseload taken from me (work in law). Some date I was going in and literally had nothing to do. One day I'd had enough and just said on my way out that I wouldn't be back. Ironically I have since been approached twice by them asking if I'd go back. Not a chance!

It did make me realise that nobody has any loyalty to anyone but themselves.

GetOnYourDancingShoes · 14/08/2014 14:50

I am expecting this to happen to me within the next week or so. I was conditionally offered a better job at the beginning of the week, dependent on DBS and references.
I am currently on a zero hour contract and so expecting my hours to drop dramatically once they get the reference request!

I can't wait to hand my notice in officially...although I am wondering just how crappy they will manage to make that week's rota Grin
