MOVING TO ESSEX

Hi this is my first time here, I may seem a bit daft as I am finding my way. I am currently looking to move from Chingford in east London to Essex. I was drawn towards Colchester area in particular Coggeshall. I am a single mum of 48 and I have a 9 year old boy who needs to have some nice new friends.
The reason for Coggeshall as I think a village would suit us better. I want to slow down a bit and play mum instead of working my bottom off!
Does anyone have any idea if Coggeshall would suit or anywhere else in Essex.
I really would appreciate your views and comments and along the way hopefully make some new friends myself.

I would say go for it!

Colchester is beautiful, I have two brothers in the army who have both been based there and I always used to make an excuse to visit.

What have you got to lose x

Haven't been to Colchester in a while but I've heard it gets quite lively at night.
No idea about Coggeshall though.
A village might suit you now but as a young teen who grew up in a very quiet village, I'm glad I'm in Romford (and there's a phrase you never thought you'd hear Wink )

Is there enough to keep your DS occupied?
Sports? Cinema? Can he get to school easily? Friends houses?
In winter will you get snowed in?
That's the pain of villages.

Lovely and under-rated part of the country

Colchester is pretty close to the coast, with Frinton (naice), Clacton and Walton all maybe 15 miles away. I did a day-trip to Clacton with friends last summer, and although it's seen better days, we has a lovely day just mooching along the sea-front and pier.

I was raised in chingford too! Now live in south essex, wouldn't want to move back though! Maldon is a nice place too, near the coast

Don't forget your fake tan and hair extensions ;)

Coggeshall is a nice area. Colchester itself not so Hmm. Too much drinking and violence these days. Clacton is the same, okay for day trips but not after dark. Wherever you go don't forget all the streetlights go out at 12 till 5 am. There are quite a few nice villages in the area though, Wivenhoe is nice too.

It's lovely round there - Lovejoy was filmed in & around Coggeshall.

Be prepared for "not much there" though - it's a small village with all the quietness & lack of conveniences - big supermarket etc. unless you're prepared to drive.

Coggeshall is very nice, I come from a village about 10 miles away. North Essex is very nice. The villages around Braintree and Halstead are nice, and some of the other villages near Colchester, Finchingfield is beautiful.

Essex is brilliant. We moved here about 18 months ago and love it. It's friendly and there's lots to do.

Colchester is ace though, yeah, a bit rough at night. Wivenhoe is fab and easy to get to London/Colchester/the rest of the world from if you don't drive, which I find appealing.

Coggeshall is very pretty but a bit isolated for me, but if that's what you're looking for it might work very well.
