..... 14 year old grown up streetwise boy for Christmas? Say £20 max. Clothes - no because I don't know what size or what he likes. Wallet - no because he has one. Perfume / aftershave - no because I gave that for his birthday. DVD - no because I don't know what he already has. Same with other electronic gear. Don't know him terribly well and I never give vouchers to anyone because they show what I've spent.

Yes, I know it's 4 months away but I'm always doing things well in advance.

Yes, I could ask his parents but this thread might give ideas to others in the same position as I am.

I love firebox.com for weird gadgety gifts. Maybe have a look for something on there?

Passthecake30 · 12/08/2014 08:34

All the kids I know that age and above only seem to want money or vouchers tbh. Why does it matter that he knows what you spent on him?

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 12/08/2014 08:37

My 14 year old ds still enjoys Lego - the more complicated ones! He also likes air fix type models.

His gifts of choice this year are a season ticket for ice hockey, spotify premium subscription and iTunes vouchers.
I'm also getting him a couple of tshirts - robot evolution, and the melting Rubik's cube (like Sheldon wears on The Big Bang Theory) If you buy a mens size small you should be ok size wise.

ds also likes the Guiness Book of World Records every year, and enjoys books about cars.

It is a very difficult age to buy for - good luck!!!!

Teddybeau1988 · 12/08/2014 08:37

iTunes voucher?

harryhausen · 12/08/2014 08:52

There's some really cool t-shirts from Lastexittonowhere.com (sorry can't do links on my phone) that is a hit with my film buff/geeky teenage nieces. They take details and small 'in jokes' from films and make them into really good looking t-shirts. Young adults like them as they have to be in the know to 'get them'.

MrsWinnibago · 12/08/2014 08:54

YEs iTunes voucher or put the cash in a card. Teens love cash.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 12/08/2014 08:56

Yep my kids at that age just wanted money.

It drove me nuts when people insisted buying them gifts after they asked what the kids wanted, kids said money, but gifts came instead.

£20 is generous. Just shove it in a card and trust me he will be happy.

I looked at CatLady's, HarryHausen's and Animals' suggestions on the internet. I then Facebooked a message to the mother of the boy and finished up buying him a book (the sort with paper pages) ......

Anyway. Job done and thank you for your help. I'm sure the ideas will help others.

Cash, definitely.

Flipflops7 · 12/08/2014 13:44

Oh, too late Grin

HappyAgainOneDay · 12/08/2014 14:19

It's never too late, Flipflops7. Others will see your suggestion if they are in the same boat. We all have different ways of thinking about this sort of thing.
