To wish that they would bring Ringos and Tubes crisps back?

I can still remember Ringos - satisfying crunchy salty rings of cheese and onion and salt and vinegar...and I mean when crisps actually used to have flavour, not the artificial crap you get nowadays. Tubes were extremely moorish - a bit like Hula Hoops but longer.

Mmmmm...

AIBU to want to become a millionaire just so that I can buy a crisp factory and bring back Ringos and Tubes? As well as buying myself an island with a castle to eat them in of course.

I wish Burtons would also bring back their Potato Puffs. I loved the salt and vinegar ones' but my favourites were KP Skydivers!

HibiscusIsland · 11/08/2014 23:59

I used to buy Burtons beef puffs from my junior school tuck shop in the 70s for 5p. Yum.

zen1 · 12/08/2014 00:02

Tuck was so much better in the 70s/80s (IMO Grin)

WildFlowersAttractBees · 12/08/2014 00:04

Beef potato puffs... now you are talking!!!
DH came home from work with ringos last month, they were super vinegary.

HibiscusIsland · 12/08/2014 00:36

I bought chocolate Logger bars from my high school tuck shop in the 80s. My poor (primary school) children are only allowed fruit at playtime Sad

Darkesteyes · 12/08/2014 01:06

Anyone remember Discos crisps The salt and vinegar ones were lush.

And Red Mill cheesy puffs ( basically giant Wotsits)

HibiscusIsland · 12/08/2014 01:09

Don't they sell Discos any more? Shock

CosmicDespot · 12/08/2014 01:10

I loved Discos. I even liked their cheese & onion ones. I had a friend who ate cheese & c&o discos sandwiches every day for lunch. White sliced and butter. They were gooood.

HibiscusIsland · 12/08/2014 01:15

Anyone remember this Discos ad?

I remember I had a summer job when I was 18 and I used to have a brie and beef disco sandwich every day. Grin

misskelly · 12/08/2014 01:23

Does anyone else remember pigglets or wickers? They just don't make crisp as good as they did in the 80's, sigh.

WhatTheFork · 12/08/2014 01:45

Puffs. I sometimes crave them. You could buy them in baker shops, but nowhere else.

Bring back puffs!

Darkesteyes · 12/08/2014 01:48

The Disco packets had changed a bit by the time i was eating them, they wernt see through and the s and v ones were in a light blue shiny packet.

Darkesteyes · 12/08/2014 01:50

Around 1987 Tesco used to do curry flavour crisps in a big bag. Now i hate curry but they were lovely.

Was round my parents on Saturday Theyve got massive bags of cheesy Doritos under the stairs. Im on Slimming World so i had to resist them Sad

Lala5 · 12/08/2014 08:02

Discos are nice but not as salty as they used to be. Ditto pickled onion monster munch. I ate two packets the other day and they didn't taste of much.

Hang on - Brie and beef Discos? That's quite a posh crisp butty!

I'm sure my db bought some Ringos in the 99p store a few weeks back. He went all retro on us about it.

DaisyFlowerChain · 12/08/2014 08:42

Ringo's are in Tescos but nothing like the originals. Never heard of tubes though.

Pipbin · 12/08/2014 08:45

Am I alone in remembering hedgehog flavour crisps?
And there were bacon crisps that were shaped like pigs. They were puffed up bubbles that were pig shaped.

Mrsjayy · 12/08/2014 09:17

I remember hedgehog crisps they were weird.

SnapeAndLily · 12/08/2014 09:24

I loved Puffs! Cheese and tomato were the best, but I'd happily scoff any flavour Grin

ovaryhill · 12/08/2014 09:39

I used to love baked bean flavour puffs, and rancheros sort of like barbecue monster munch, yum
I know this thread is about crisps but. ..... puffa puffa rice cereal! would love that back

Lala5 · 12/08/2014 10:28

I remember hedgehog crisps but actually thought they were made out of hedgehogs so refused to eat them (I was 9 years old).

I am sure I read something somewhere about them being discontinued due to trade descriptions or something - as they were not actually made out of hedgehogs!
