to think that Usborne (and similar) book parties are a waste of time going to?

I just don't get the appeal when Usborne books - and similar - are available much cheaper elsewhere eg The Book People, The Works, Amazon, supermarkets...

Am I missing something, beyond a glossy catalogue and unlimited choice?

Yanbu whenever they have stalls at the school fate, the books are massively overpriced. May as well go online

CrapBag · 11/08/2014 20:49

YANBU.

I actually had one of these parties, 1 to help out a friend who had just started selling them and 2 because I got a free book and used the commission to buy the rest that I wanted.

I would never pay full price for them, the Book People always have some much cheaper so I snap them up when I see them.

God done these and Tupperware, candles, Anne summers and Avon.

Bloody waste of time and money.

I'm glad it's not just me!

YANBU I never buy books from them - far cheaper elsewhere!

The only one I ever found really good were the body shop ones as lots of the gift sets etc where much better than those in the shop and similar prices.

I have been to partylite and Avon and they were awful quality and massive overpriced for what they offered

MrsDavidBowie · 12/08/2014 09:46

Awful parties. All my friends went through a phase of doing this.

onlychildinreality · 12/08/2014 09:52

I went to a body shop party years ago. Didn't enjoy. More recently I've turned down invitations to craft and card parties too. V v overpriced and I prefer to buy my cards from Card Factory and the like.

I once did this at a toddler group. I made a grand profit of -£18.50 Blush

I'm not even sure how I did it. It did, however, confirm my gut instinct that I am just not cut out for a career in Sales!

CrapBag · 12/08/2014 10:05

I keep getting invited to Jamie at Home shit. I am not interested in buying overpriced cooking crap because it has the name of a celeb on it.

I decline every bloody time.

SolidGoldBrass · 12/08/2014 10:08

No YANBU, sadly these things are a bit of a scam - the companies make their money by signing up loads of skint mothers who have to pay up front for a chunk of stock which they then can't sell.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 12/08/2014 12:30

Oh god, I hate any parties like this. I got pushed into doing one once by a girl I used to work with, she just kept pestering me until I agreed and I instantly regretted it. It was Virgin Vie, who's products are average at best. I just don't like the feeling that you have invited your friends over purely to get money out of them. Plus, Anne Summers parties, how could you buy a vibrator in front of your mum Shock GrinGrin
