To expect a lock on my bedroom door

I'm staying in a very nice 4 star B&B tonight. It's lovely but there's no lock on my bedroom door. I'm travelling alone and am really quite surprised there isn't one.

The place is full so moving isn't an option but then I don't know that any other room has one.

Apart from the fact I'm sleeping in a house with 8 other strangers I have all the usual type stuff with me. Mobile phone ipad kindle. Not to mention my purse with credit cards etc and keys for a 4 month old car. I've put everything in the wardrobe but I'm still very uneasy.

is it unreasonable to think a lock is basic requirement in any b&b or hotel.

I'd expect and want a lock I think.

I don't think I've ever had a lock on a B and B, nor would I expect one. The ones we use are in rural Scotland, where you are treated like a member of the family staying in the spare room.

I've never really thought about it until now, but it feels like if would change the dynamic and be less if a B and B and more of a guest house.

If nothing else I would expect the sort of lock you have on your doors at home - not a Yale or anything.

I've stayed at a few B&Bs and they've always had locks!

I think this is quite common in more upmarket b&b establishments, I've come across it but it has always been pointed out to me on arrival and explained as indicating a friendly and open more house party environment than a commercial place to sleep. It doesn't bother me, I have more faith in human nature than to think out of 8 other guests one is bound to be a rapist or thief.
