If you did a 2 hour round trip as a favour for some one

If you had to drive an hour (and obviously an hour back) to pick some ones child up. Look after them for a weekend and drop them back again (and other 2 hours in the car for me) so they could work or as I suspect go out - would you expect perhaps an offer of £10 towards diesel / feeding their child for 2 days?

Unless the Mum is going to give money to your relative - it's difficult to offer money to a virtual stranger, you might be all "No I couldn't"

If you dropped them off today you might get a thank you tomorrow?
But this would be a one off for me .

I'm more puzzled that a mother would let you have her child when you had only met the mother once before and never met the child.

Nope not met the kid before. They may have been at a party years ago when little but nope, lovely kid though. Was dreading bed time thinking there would be tears etc but nope went to bed with mine like a dream. Think the poor thing is used to being passed around.

I shan't be doing that relative any more favours. Ever.

Well I get asked to do all sorts of child related favours but, yes ,their parents do offer money even if I don't a accept.

I would absolutely expect an offer of petrol money with that sort of drive especially as said parent wouldn't be reciprocating a favour anytime soon (which is why I usually decline money etc).
