Travellers have arrived and by the looks of it staying in the children's play field. The field consists of a football pitch and skating frame.
There is no running water and no toilets.

There is a caravan park not far from here. Why can't they stay there?

I'm sure there is an out of hours number somewhere.

Ours has out of hours too. It's regularly used, sadly

They wont stay on a proper park because it costs money and the park wouldn't have travelers on the site for the fear of what they might get up to

BramwellBrown · 09/08/2014 23:05

We get lots of travellers round here as there are lots of council owned playing fields and stuff and lots of farms where they get work, usually they are fine and don't cause any bother, use chemical toilets which I gather are then driven somewhere to be emptied. They tidy up after themselves and are generally nice people.

However just recently we've had some real trouble making dickhead ones appear and the police don't give a fuck, nor do the council, its easier for them to just wait for them to move on.

BramwellBrown · 09/08/2014 23:14

Also most campsites have rules about group sizes to stop travellers moving in, not just because of what they might get up to but actually mostly because its bad for business, I mean if a review comes up saying something like 'xxx was full of travellers this weekend' that's going to put a lot of campers off.

They didn't look short of a penny. One looked like a brand new car.

It makes a lot of difference if you don't have to pay rent, council tax or national insurance.

BookABooSue · 09/08/2014 23:25

As others have said, campsites and caravan parks don't let travellers on. Yes it's discrimination but they're a sector of society that many people and councils still think it's OK to treat differently. Councils used to be legally obliged to provide sites for them but many don't. And when the travellers buy sites and try to get planning permission, the local communities usually object. It's why they end up pulling on to spare bits of ground.

It depends on the type of travellers how long they will try to stay and whether or not they'll have inside toilets. If there is any antisocial behaviour then call the police.

The police treat them differently too, sadly Angry

We had a load move into a field near us, it took the police less than 24 hours to move them off the park, and less than 48 to block the entrance that they drove in through.

Goldenbear · 10/08/2014 20:32

We have had travellers that have twice moved on to a recreation ground near us and a big city park. The recreation ground has a wooded area that parallels a road of houses that are very expensive (£800 - £1.3 million) and both times they were moved on within 24 hours. In the case of the park within 48hrs. It does appear sometimes that the police will ally themselves with the rich (powerful). I know of a wealthy Developer that lived down the road facing the recreation ground and he got in his car and drove to the council offices, parked illegally outside and refused to move until something was done- something was done!
