Incredibly trivial but...

Over recent months I've heard and read much more about 'you and baby' 'give baby xyz' 'baby needs'. Not your baby, not the baby, not a baby. Just baby.

For reasons i cant explain it really grates on me especially when said in the irritating and patronising 'smiley' voice by the woman on a spotify advert. Is this a new thing?

YANBU. It annoys me too.

Even worse, my ex's mum (who was a lovely woman in every respect but this), used to refer to her grandchild as 'Babe', so it would be '[Ex's Sister]'s going to try starting Babe on solids soon' or 'Babe started crawling last week'. Used to make my back teeth itch. in fact they're doing it now just thinking about it!

It gives me rage. I actually threw things at the TV during CTM. They also talk about "Doctor" in the same fashion which is just as bad in my book.

My ten month old daughter's nickname/name we always call her at home is actually, er, baby. We didn't mean to be so unoriginal. It's what we called her to her two year old brother and it kind of stuck. So in our house it really is a case of 'baby would like her milk' 'baby's going to bed now' 'give baby her dummy' etc.

Although when she's being really demanding she gets called milady.

I agree, it's very sickly and annoying.

But I had a health visitor than would call me 'mum' rather than use 'you'.

'How's mum today?' Grrrr.
