to expect a delivery i've paid for to actually arrive?

I have a lot of work to do on my house, and finally some time to do it. I want to pack everything safely away in plastic boxes, and then work through the house as if it were empty, like a renovation project. So I ordered plastic boxes from Wilkinsons and paid for next day delivery - it came to just over £200 which is a lot when you don't have a penny to spare.

I waited in all day. From 8-6, and having been informed that they sometimes deliver to 7.30, I waited even longer. I went to the letter box three times - no card saying 'we tried to deliver'. I stayed within twelve feet of the front door all day. Windows were open, it was clear the house was occupied. I didn't have loud music, or any kind of distraction. They did not come. Another delivery came, that was fine.

I phoned Wilkinsons twice. First time - 'Wait longer'. Second time 'Oh, they tried to deliver, they took a photo of your house'. They didn't try hard enough - for example, they didn't knock on the door; they didn't phone, though they had my mobile number.

I am blazing mad. I've cancelled the order and asked for a refund, which they've said they'll do. But I won't be getting back the day wasted waiting for them.

Am I being unreasonable to expect people to do what they've agreed and been paid to do?

I've heard of this "we took a photo of your house" before. Why would a delivery driver take a photo of your house??!! Hmm

I swear they must be screenshots from Google streetview or something in a vain attempt to claim they were there.

Our drivers take actual photos of the customers house if they aren't in. It means we can give a house description to the owners.

Mind, they also take pictures of the appliances once they are delivered too. It's to show the delivery was made, along with the signed proof of delivery.

I think he took a photo of the house to prove that it doesn't look all that good!

Of course it doesn't. That's why I need a load of boxes to pack my stuff in so I can do some serious work very quickly... so having a whole day wasted and ending up without boxes really doesn't sit well with me. Its two days wasted, actually, as they couldn't deliver yesterday even with a 'premium delivery' payment.

This happened to us once, not Wilko though. They said "well the driver definitely delivered it, he has described your house with the black gates on the driveway". Cue silence when they were informed we are actually a bungalow with no off street parking...

I've had this and similar incidents before with other companies.

Boots idiot couriers I've had several problems with.

1 got left under my car - I was in the house, they didn't knock at all. I have a dog that barks at everything - they didn't knock or leave a card. I reversed over the box! It had make up in i had ordered. Fucking idiots.

I had one left out on the doorstep in the rain, one under my bins in the summer which stank.

I got so fed up that when they yet again dumped a parcel on the front step where anyone could have taken it (and I live on a busy main road) that I complained and told them it never arrived.

Shameful I know but I was so pissed off and it had bare minerals make up in it that I'd already had to wait 4 days for I thought they might finally sort out their idiot drivers!

Confused

So, after I'd cancelled the order, they arranged a refund, the goods arrived...
