Hi,

I've got someone at work that everyone thinks is really nice. However when no one else is around he's pretty ubpleasent to me, has said I shouldn't work here when I made a suggestion to improve somethibf, spoke to me like I'm a child, called me sneeky and is generally being harsh to me.

Should I bother raising it with management or just suck it up as there are usually dicks you just have to work with?

Don't speak to him without witnesses, for a start. That way you'll limit his opportunities to be horrible to you. If he's reluctant to be horrible to you in front of others, that also means he cares about his reputation (with others), so start networking a bit more yourself, to build up your own "power base". What have your appraisals been like?

Start documenting these incidents, log them and record what was said context, etc. If you intend to pursue this you will need to back up your case. Sorry to hear about your experience it's more common than you might think.

Thanks, my appraisals have been good.

Have kept a log of these incidents. Its really difficult as they are not anything really bad but bit by bit they are getting to me. He deliberately goes to point out errors that I have made to everyone but doesn't actually name me and other people make these errors they are ignored. When I try to stand up for myself he makes it into a big deal and makes out he was just trying to help and we are all one big team.

I suspect it is common, I've just never had it before in the workplace.

What a sly git. Of course you would be the one "alienating" others if you point out others' mistakes, which he had nobly glossed over... Hmm You need some dirt on him! Wink
