To think this is a cover up

Complained in feb to local hospital about some serious errors they made diagnosing/treating dd2. Got email confirmation.

Then heard nothing so I contacted them in June to be told I had never complained ??? When I said I still had the confirmation the woman said she would phone me back she didn't for three days then said it was still being investigated. A month later same thing so I re sent it all again.

Last week I phoned complaints dept and PALS as had not heard a thing. Spoke to a lovely lady who took hosp number dob names etc and everything to do with my complaint has gone from the system so I had to email her the emails I had luckily kept.

I'm really annoyed and convinced they were trying to 'lose' my complaint on purpose.

Get in touch with your MP.

You have the "receipt" as it were. They can deny all they want, it won't hold up in court.

That said, it is definitely NOT in their best interest to admit to any mistakes. So, I wouldn't expect them to admit fault.

I guess the question is, what do you want to come of all this? You won't get an admission of guilt. So is it worth the lawsuit?

I think you also need to complain about the complaints procedure!

Edenviolet · 04/08/2014 00:19

I'm not after compensation or anything like that. I was angry about the treatment and just want somebody held accountable for what has happened. Too many things went wrong we had an initial misdiagnosis that could have led to dd dying, then a week in hospital where she was given the wrong treatment and we had no support. Another dr then dismissed our worries abou another aspect of her health and scrawled on a scan report 'irrelevant' and was hateful to us. We then got another wrong diagnosis for dd, we were confused by it so she was re tested but they lost her sample and she had to go through it all again then we had an appointment where her consultant was extremely rude and dismissive to us then sent a summary letter full of lies so I complained and we changed hospitals

You are not being unreasonable, it sounds like a cover up.

Sadly I have a friend who has had a similar experience.

I hope you can get it all sorted out without any more hassle - good luck.

caroldecker · 04/08/2014 00:38

Almost certainly not a cover up, more complete incompetence - you believe they were incompetent in treating your DD, then they are propably as crap with their complaints procedures.

From 2013 this came in

NHS Complaints Independent Advocacy Service

Different areas have different names/organisations doing this advocacy, so google the above with your town and it will tell you who is doing it in your town. They can help you with your complaint, well hopefully.

Never underestimate the likelihood of a cock up. I doubt that they would try to lose it when the system involves sending acknowledgments by email.

Did you send the complaint by email? If so, ask them about their IT back-up arrangements.
