In Colorado, here for 5 weeks.

Why the HELL is there a half inch gap on either side of the door in all public toilets?? You can see everything going on!!!
This has been the case everywhere I've been in America?
AIBU to be both baffled and embarrassed

lighthearted btw. I don't really think there's something wrong with the Americans

We have come to the agreement in our house that dinner is the main meal of the day. Other than that and breakfast meal names are the source of discussions.

For me from the south of England, juice is the juice of a fruit, squash is anything that needs diluting, no name for fizzy drinks - they are all called by a name ie coke, or ade on the end like cherryade, orangeade, lemonade.

steff13 · 18/08/2014 00:16

Here squash is a vegetable. That was another source of confusion when I first joined this site - people were talking about how squash isn't good for kids, yet I make my kids eat squash several times a week. :)

You would say 'would you like a sweet?' or 'would you like to see the sweet menu' in a restaurant.

steff13 · 18/08/2014 00:18

Here we ask for the dessert menu. Or dessert cart for a fancier restaurant.

Trolley definitely sounds fancier than cart. I've seen a tea trolley, but I've never heard a dessert cart called a dessert trolley.

tabulahrasa · 18/08/2014 00:28

Softplay is um, padded things, climbing frames, slides, big squishy blocks and a ball pool...I've seen them on American TV programmes, but I'm not sure what they're called?

steff13 · 18/08/2014 00:32

It sounds kind of like Chuck E Cheese, except that has video games, too. And it is also hell on earth.

Bogeyface · 18/08/2014 00:40

I have never met a trifle that I didn't like.

This. Just this.

Bogeyface · 18/08/2014 00:43

My mother was a bit of a social climber in the 70's so posh dinners were "Starter, Main Course, Sweet Course, Cheese, Coffee and Petite Fours" (I swear she actually pronounced the capital letters!)

I am a mishmash of working class angst coupled with middle class pretentions, so I just dont eat pudding, its easier :o

Bogeyface · 18/08/2014 00:44

I spelt petit fours wrong didnt I?

SconeRhymesWithGone · 18/08/2014 00:50
