To ask how I've become this sad person who doesn't know how to access the music I love :(

...and how can I change this horrible, isolating existence?
Okay, dramatic sounding and I have had a couple of glasses but truth is I have no idea how to access music I want to hear anymore.
Where do I go to learn?

One word - Spotify.

wigglesrock · 02/08/2014 19:03

Agree - Spotify, I spend a fantastic night indulging my love of Prince and Dolly Parton Smile

Valpollicella · 02/08/2014 19:03

you tube is your friendGrin

thankslove · 02/08/2014 19:03

Huh?

Charitygirl1 · 02/08/2014 19:05

What do you mean 'huh?'?

If you've never heard of Spotify, then I assume you've heard of google?

thankslove · 02/08/2014 19:09

Yes, have used google.

See there's the thing, it seems so unbelievable doesn't it?
I used to have LPs then tapes then CDs then children!
Surely it's not just me?

I think Charity is suggesting you use Google to find Spotify - and also to learn how to use it.

It's easy. Honest.

PS I am really quite old.

PhaedraIsMyName · 02/08/2014 19:46

You don't need Spotify. If you mean you've lost touch I'd try buying something like Q or Mojo or Uncut and listening to their free CD samplers of new music. I generally find a couple of things each month I like, frequently artists I'd not heard of. As they avoid mainstream you'll soon be knowledge again.

I still buy CDs probably on average 3/4 per month.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 02/08/2014 20:09

What do/did you normally listen to?

MrsDe · 02/08/2014 20:33

As others have said, spotify. It's amazing and those who don't know what it is think I just have the best playlist in the world, which it kind of is.

FranKatzenjammer · 02/08/2014 20:38

You haven't said what genres you like, but BBC Radio 6Music is extremely good.

mupperoon · 02/08/2014 20:43

Fran another vote for 6Music. Can't believe they were thinking of closing it down a couple of years ago! I have heard so much great new (and old) music via Marc Riley and Radcliffe/Maconie!

FixitTweak · 02/08/2014 20:46

I know exactly how you feel - used to be so on top of music and bands, but just don't know what is going on anymore since having ds.

I agree that radio 6 music is brilliant - lots of old blasts from the past that are still cool, and lots of new none mainstream music (both guitar and dance oriented). Mark Radcliffe is my favourite (afternoons 1-4)

FixitTweak · 02/08/2014 20:47

Snap mupperoon!

ballsballsballs · 02/08/2014 21:11

Another recommend for YouTube here. I'm particularly fond of early 90's rave - it makes me feel young again :)

MamaPizza · 02/08/2014 21:11

I've just downloaded spotify and love it. Great playlists, thanks for suggesting it.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 02/08/2014 21:34

YouTube, LastFM or the good, old BBC website.

Pipbin · 02/08/2014 22:48

You aren't alone in being confused by Spotify. I don't understand it and I am very tech savvy. To previous posters saying things like 'have you never heard of Google either?' doesn't help.

I think 6 music is your friend too.

thankslove · 04/01/2017 13:15

Thankyou for all your suggestions.
