AIBU to think that you don't have to take the whole bag out of the box to put cereal in your bowl?

That's it really. DH does this. DS has started doing it.
It drives me mad because:

  1. the cereal all sort of sqooshes down to the bottom of the bag making it more difficult to put back into the box
  1. it's harder to actually pour the cereal out of a floppy plastic bag and some always goes on the side (in ds's case, anyway)
  1. it's just wrong :o

Sometimes you need to do this, especially with the fruit cereals or you end up with all the fruit at the bottom of the bag. However, agree with you re getting it back in the cardboard box.

SleepRefugee · 02/08/2014 14:53

decant into a plastic canister?

shoofly · 02/08/2014 15:00

Yanbu. DH does this and now ds 's are copying him. Gives me the rage.

ilovepowerhoop · 02/08/2014 15:08

put cereal in a cereal tub and then there is no issue

ApocalypseNowt · 02/08/2014 15:11

Gosh that's worrying. Did you know this about him before you married him?

It's weird and wrong and I would give anyone who does this a massive swerve.

Gruntfuttock · 02/08/2014 15:16

No it's not necessary, but it's too trivial to bother about IMO and I'd let him carry on pouring his cereal as he likes without complaining, but that's probably because I am an exceptionally wonderful, tolerant and lovely person.

In fact I'm practically perfect - except for being too modest.

TheKitchenWitch · 02/08/2014 15:42

Plastic canister??? Are you MAD? :o

What's wrong with cereal canisters? Grin

I've got these, well, bigger ones but this sort of thing here

what I WANT, however, is this I think it would look great on my worktop

Bluestocking · 02/08/2014 15:54

My DP does this too - and he cuts a great slice off the top of the bag so there's not enough to fold over the remaining cereal, always supposing you can get it back into the bag.
Down with the Cerealpackagingfuckers!

MrsWinnibago · 02/08/2014 16:04

We have cereal canisters. They are MUCH better than some scabby old box with a wrinkly bag inside. I think we have far too much packaging anyway and that everything should be sold from sacks like the old days.

[weird]

picnicbasketcase · 02/08/2014 16:06

No, it'd do my head right in.

treaclesoda · 02/08/2014 16:06

I do this Blush

It's because if you don't, you get rogue flakes working their way down between the bag and the box

LaundryFairy · 02/08/2014 16:11

What?!? No LTB yet?

Zame · 02/08/2014 16:12

Ooh no I think that's sensible, stops little bits escaping out into the box and going stale at the bottom

ElephantsNeverForgive · 02/08/2014 16:13

As treacle says, some DCs are much better taught to take the bag out as their hands are too small to while the boxes and worry about the bag at the same time.

Suddenly the cereal starts moving too fast. Cue panic putting the box down and cereal on the table, floor and between box and bag.

Or they try to scoop cereal out not pour, which also ends up with it in between the layers.

Gruntfuttock · 02/08/2014 16:15

"What?!? No LTB yet?"

Well, I was briefly tempted when I first read the OP, but then realised it was a bit too predict-a-babble.

LividofLondon · 02/08/2014 16:16

It's not a problem if whoever takes the bag out has to put it back, and whoever spills cereal on the table cleans it up is it Confused

TheKitchenWitch · 02/08/2014 17:55
  1. It's a problem if I have to watch him doing it. And now, thanks to ds doing it too, I have to watch him doing it on weekday mornings as well (breakfast together only at w/ends as DH out of the house so early).
  1. Plastic containers make me shudder. I can just about cope with ds's lunch/snack boxes for school. But clear plastic containers are absolutely no-go.
  1. I've never had any "rogue flakes". Maybe I am particularly dexterous when it comes to cereal pouring?

I do it too, same reason as treaclesoda - stops all the bloody cornflakes escaping from the bag into the box. I think it's also a throw back from when you used to get the stickers/cards inside the plastic bag Smile

Gruntfuttock · 02/08/2014 18:00

"Plastic containers make me shudder."

Huh? Why? Confused

treaclesoda · 02/08/2014 18:21

Yes, wiggles, so true! When you knew that you had to get that 3D pitcure of ET, or the Spokey Dokeys, out of the bottom of the Ricicles packet before your pesky siblings got there, there was no other option but to take the whole bag out!

treaclesoda · 02/08/2014 18:22

Not a 3D picture of Spokey Dokeys, obviously...just actual Spokey Dokeys.

windchime · 02/08/2014 18:37

decant into a plastic canister?

Grin
Applelicious · 02/08/2014 18:38

You are soooo not being unreasonable. I have DH and DC that do this too. Just.... AARGH!

I also can't deal with the plastic containers and I'm not even sure why. Confused

wigglesrock · 02/08/2014 18:39

treaclesoda - I was known to nip a younger sibling in my quest for free tat - I was particularly fond of the 3d ones that were a prehistoric animal and then it's modern counterpart Smile
