To want to leave my bare plaster walls as they are?

I've just stripped the wallpaper in a room and I love the way it looks, the plaster is a lovely colour, mottled with a kind of mediterranean feel. I want to keep it and not paint over it. Has anyone done this? Can I just seal it with PVA (or something) and it will be OK?

Posted this in Home decoration but it's been 10 whole minutes and nobody's answered! [impatient]

I reckon waxing bare plaster could really work. It's actually pretty similar to the tadelakt plaster technique that I was wiffling on about upthread - with tadelakt the wall is plastered in pigmented plaster then burnished with waxy soap rubbed in, so quite similar! I'd be tempted to give it a go Smile

I know exactly what you mean - don't whatever you do paint over it with "plaster-coloured" paint. You'll lose all the marks and patina of age. It's a beautiful, beautiful look.

You should, however, definitely seal the plaster to keep it nice and also to prevent plaster dust. There is a specific product I forget what it's called but it's clear and matte.
