To wonder what on earth megabloks are doing?

Wondering around toys r us yesterday, I happened upon the mega blocks section. I was pretty surprised at what I saw. Halo and call of duty toys/figurines as far as the eye could see. Don't get me wrong, i'm a massive halo fan and gamer, but really mega bloks? These video games have ratings of M or 15/18, yet these toys are marketed from the ages 8+. No wonder parents are being badgered by kids for the computer games.

How utterly bizarre! Mega blocks are for toddlers no?

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 28/07/2014 12:16

I just looked them up - age range on the box says 10-100. It seems enormously inappropriate to me!

I thout something had to be garbled/misread, but here they all are.

Given what comes up on predictive search (plus existence of "collectables") pages, my guess is at the manufacturer is thinking of an adult niche market (the sort of thing I'd never have predicted existed, a bit like Bronies)

......and apart from all that, they are crap and they don't fit together properly - I bought a set for my teen (lego mad) son as they were a bit more "grown up" I complained got no response and ended up chucking it in the bin.

MrsWinnibago · 28/07/2014 13:12

Stella I thought that too....but really? Would they invest that much money in an entire range for a niche market? I doubt it...they must have a target market and it's not adults if you ask me.

MrsWinnibago · 28/07/2014 13:14

A quick google gave me this interesting article here where a marketing and toy expert says they are aimed at kids because kids want what their older siblings and even parents want.

SistersOfPercy · 28/07/2014 13:22

Lego aims a lot at the adult market, Megablocks would be rather stupid not to do the same.

I'd guess they were aimed at late teens. I have a late teen DD who habitually buys lego, especially Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. The megablocks COD range appeals to her and her friends.

I think it's probably the reverse of what you say in your OP. Kids don't badger parents for the games because of the toys. They badger parents for toys because of the games that they've been allowed to play under age. They wouldn't produce a range of toys unless they thought the market was there already. Nearly everyone will know of someone who let's their children play games underage.
